Answer me something (100% honest question)

How long can you stay in the adult biz? Is this something you can be a lifer at? Can you do this forever?

I mean if I do this for the next 15 years and then I need to get another job- can I go to a mainstream company and say "I sold penis enlargement and porn for 17 years"?
Or is this something that is part time for people, quick buck and get the FUCK out asap? I want people's opinions on this PERSONAL opinions.
Is this a career thing? Or a retirment thing.

detoxed 08-14-2004 09:16 PM

If you cant retire after 10 years in this biz, you should get out now.

Ray@TastyDollars 08-14-2004 09:17 PM

Been about 3.5 years for me and Ill be here untill porn gets banned online..........FOREVER!

Online Porn Forever!

lil2rich4u2 08-14-2004 09:17 PM

if you are any good at what you are doing you can easily bank $1 mil in no time, just few years hopefully.

now you ahve that 1 million sitting in some bonds and IRA's and shit, making an avg of 5%-7%

thats $50k - $70k per year for doing nothing at all, just collecting interest.

Bottom line, you should be able to retire in a very short time if you play your cards right.

McDonald's is an equal opportunity employer. :winkwink:

NiteRain 08-14-2004 09:23 PM

Well, it can be anything you want it to be. I know a guy who has been in the business for a long time, he could retire right now. But I think he likes pushing the limits. When I started working for him his program was one of the biggest in the business. I think in a few more years he will end it all, but he hasn't put all of his eggs in one basket, he has some non-adult stuff in the mix too.

For me, I have my software company, and adult is secondary for me. So if I wanted to go into the mainstream again, I can put forth my software company, and put that face on my career. If need be.

Illicit 08-14-2004 09:23 PM

wow if its so easy to make money and retire in this biz, why are so many of you still here ?

this is not something you want to rely on to last. Things change to quick on the net, and you could end up fucked real fast

pxxx 08-14-2004 09:24 PM

I am in it now as part time, i don't know if i will ever become fulltime as i am attending college to become a Pharmacist. If this and school becomes too much for me, then i am out. If i hit gold with porn while going to school. I will just do what lil2rich4u2 said, just invest it, leave this, and finish my school. That is how i plan for it to go for me.:thumbsup

This is my 20th year investing in adult businesses. I have regular non-adult businesses too, but the adult stuff just can't be beat for sure thing profits year after year.

Everyone should have diversified adult interests in their investment portfolio. Even during the worst economy sex always sells and usually even better during those times when people are all stressed out.

It's kind of amazing though to think I started in this industry before some of you were even born and most were just toddlers.

:thumbsup :1orglaugh

Screaming 08-14-2004 09:28 PM

it is kinda hard to get out for one you know there is always money to be made here and that is is money you can make with out going out and building houses or having a degree. that and in most cases better money then you would make at most other jobs

Just because you can retire doesn't mean you have to.

In adult biz 2-3 years more. Mainstream on-line business 5-6 years more. I'll be like what....32 then and do what retire? Doing business is all about being creative. I'll do something else then for sure.

Oracle Porn 08-14-2004 09:38 PM

I hope to make enough to retire, if not at least start an offline biz.

BradM 08-14-2004 09:54 PM

I am getting the vibe that everyone here is for the quick buck. Few years max, and get the hell out... investing time in mainstream, or furthering education so you can bail at any time.

How many of you are here for the long haul?

BradM 08-14-2004 10:16 PM

KRL: Not worried about the biz crashing? Especially with changes happening the way they are with religios zealots in office?

JSA Matt 08-14-2004 11:14 PM

I'm a programmer also so I think it's fairly easy for me to get back into mainstream if I ever needed to :glugglug

hydro 08-14-2004 11:18 PM

nothing is in more demand than sex. Porn has to be one of the most stable things to sell online since your not just selling whats popular today or whats in the news that week. When it comes to residual income, porn is up there at the top with pharmacy and casion (addiction i guess???)

So you should be all set to retire, right?

sean416 08-14-2004 11:47 PM

I'm in it for the 5-10 year range, I don't see myself having a family and a home in the burbs while pushing porn online. I dont mean to knock the people living that life, I just dont think its for me. I'd rather make my money, have my fun, then get out and invest in an offline/mainstream business.

Webmistress Pookie 08-15-2004 12:22 AM

i'm in it for the long haul unless shit gets nasty with the government. if and when it happens, ill be ready as i dont have all my eggs in one basket.

self employment 4 life ;-))

But i agree with you, being in this business = having no CV :2 cents:

Jace 08-15-2004 03:45 AM

i make money and stay in this biz to feed my musical career....takes a lot of dough to make it in the music biz....

i have been spending my money so recklessly the past few years, i finally just sat down the past few months and made a plan, and now have a tight budget

i always plan on having my fingers in adult in some way, but in the next two years I plan to phase it out for the most part and get my music goin full force

I doubt that online porn will ever die but even if you fail for whatever reason, a true businessman always finds new business opportunities :2 cents: And if you aren't a convinced self employed businessman you better get out now :2 cents:

Short term.

It was a vehicle to get me out of my 9-5. Turns out I work more doing this.

Hope to be in Hospitality in Costa Rica, soon.

In exactly the same situation here... the thing is though, I make more from my 15 mins a day working on my porn sites than I do from my mainstream company.

I am seriously thinking of selling my share in my mainstream company by the end of the year or early next year.

I feel that if I did porn full-time my earnings would explode in no time.

..And yes, I am in it for the long run - till I retire at 40 at least :)

TheMob 08-15-2004 06:41 AM

what is this business you people are talking about? wrong forum, perhaps?
