I think this would fix some problems we have in the USA

Make it so everyone makes the same exact salary. No matter what your job is, the salary is the same, say $50-$70k per year?

no taxes taken from paychecks, the companies will pay these instead of paying higher salaries to people.

companies can over charge for merchandise to a point, it will be regulated by the Govt. and a very healthy portion of the profits will be kept by the Govt. so that we dont pay property tax, sales tax, earnings tax, etc.

It might help to allow the Govt. to own ALL stores, this way there is no sole owner that should be making more money but he isnt, because everyone makes the same money lol.

This way you just figure out what you want to do, and you do it! There is no competing for salary, etc.

The govt. will have PLENTY of cash to hire EVERYONE to do something, because they are collecting the profits off of ALL businesses.

I dunno, maybe ill just make a movie about it lol

well it may solve unemployment issues since the Govt. can now afford to put everyone to work doing something.

To many damn people already work for the government in one way or another.

How about we just provide some good insentives to open business's in very bad area's. Oh and fuck the midwest (sorry but if the closest town is 200 miles away and there are no jobs, town shouldnt be there).

Serge Litehead 08-14-2004 07:16 PM

its been already proven that it doesn't work, USSR is gone
you cannot provide totally uncoraptable system especially where "everyone's equial".

evildick 08-14-2004 07:28 PM

Worst idea ever.

woj 08-14-2004 07:41 PM

stupid idea,
what would motivate people to try hard? to invent/innovate?

Why would you even need money then? Let the people take anything from the store, and not have to pay anything... Everything would be government sponsored..

wyldblyss 08-14-2004 07:51 PM

Well, in your scenerio the gov't runs everything....you should know their track record by now. A business owned by one individual can be run by him and his 6 employees. Take the same company in gov't hands and there would be 18 people doing the job and it won't be done right.

Then you have to think about incentive. Where is the incentive to create new products? To go the extra distance? Money motivates people...so the doctor and the toilet cleaner both earns the same wage...the company manager and the company receptionist both earn the same.....are the duties similar?
Why go on to higher education if you will make the exact same amount as someone who never finished high school? Why take the job that is stress ridden and challanging when you can sweep floors for the same amount? Society would basically fall apart in the U.S. citizens would go to other countries.

Take for example Canada. We put restrictions on the amount of $$ doctors could make here. So what happened? Most of the best left and moved to the U.S. where they could earn double what they earned here....and many Canadians had to wait forever to get into seeing a specialist.

When you get pregnant, you go to an OB/GYN, they take care of you and monitor you threw the 9 months. Where I lived we had TWO OB/GYN's for not only the city but surrounding areas...the population was about 350,000. There was obviously no way they could handle the load so patients had to see their family doctors instead...and you got ONE visit with the OB/GYN about a week before you were due...that is IF you went to your due date and IF he managed to make the appointment....which in most cases he missed because he was delivering a baby. Family doctors had not delivered or even taken care of pregnant women in years and they just didn't have the experience...babies were put at risk. I almost lost my last baby because I ran into complications during labor and he was busy trying to take care of 2 emergency C-sections and take care of 8 other women in labor. The 2 doctors were basically working 20 hour days, 7 days a week. So .....this post is way too long...but you get the picture...money motivates...take it away..you take away the motivation for most people.

Isn't that communism?

I work as hard as I do because I want to get ahead in life. If you told me I'd be making $70k for the rest of my life and all I had to do was enough work to keep my job I'd have a fucking blast.

Eight hour days would rock!

If you ever lived in a big city when the garbage collectors go on strike, it doesn't take many days before you realize that while - for example - a brain surgeon might matter more to the few individuals on whom he operates, garbage collectors - again just an example - are more important to the community as a whole.

Once you start thinking along those lines, objectively, not from a political perspective, you start to wonder if it really makes sense that a company ceo earns more than a school teacher. Without the teacher, he would be pressing buttons in a factory somewhere. Doctors can't function without nurses. Neither can function without janitors. How much money could an NFL player generate if there were no-one to build the stadiums or run the cameras, clean the toilets, man the turnstiles?

Non-communist countries have bought into the myth, put around by people who have awarded themselves large paychecks, that such is the natural order of things. Why would someone study for a job if he could earn as much for doing something less demanding? Well maybe because a lot of people would rather be architects than supermarket cashiers, and if that isn't true of everyone, so what: you only need 1 architect for every 100,000 cashiers (or whatever the ratio is).

Start paying people (who either go to work or opt for recognized further education) as soon as they graduate high school, and I guarantee you will still fill every job that needs filling. And I suspect that when genuine inclination is more of a driving force than short-term money needs or long-term purely financial ambitions, you might even get a better match between people and the jobs that they do. And therefore get the jobs done better.

The other popular myth is that when the incentive of extra pay is removed, so is the incentive to work harder. Bullshit. Anyone who has attended business school learns in their first semester that money isn't much of a motivator once someone is earning enough to pay their bills. Communist countries screwed up because their systems were corrupt: there is no fundamental reason why competition for the most desirable jobs couldn't be just as tough as it is now.

Communist, capitalist or whatever label applies, we all live in societies structured like pyramids: lots of people at the bottom and just a few enjoying the wealth and power at the top. None of these systems are inherently corrupt or inefficient, but they all can be. And if there is a shift from one system to another, or from one group to another within the same system, the only real difference is who is at the top and who at the bottom. The essential pyramidal structure remains.

We may have been taught that slogans such as "everyone is born equal" are anathema. But isn't it ludicrous that more than 90% of us settle for living our whole lives in varying degrees of relative poverty, some in absolute poverty, so that a handful can enjoy lifestyles most can't even dream about?

Craziest of all is that the privileged few don't even have to defend themselves: lots of middle class and even working class people actually fight to retain the "natural order", apparently in the belief they should be grateful for the meagre padding on their treadmills.
