Just because that is the legal age of consent that doesn't mean all 14 year old girls are sexually active. I am sure there is no more of a percentage of Canadian 14 year olds having sex than there is in the U.S. In fact....I would hazard to guess that the percentage is much higher in the U.S.

I agree its too young. With sex comes responsibility of your actions..this means childbirth, parenthood, and sexually transmitted diseases. We all know that most 14 year olds are not mature enough emotionally to deal with these issues..even though they might be mature enough physically.

My mother (in the U.S.) got married at 15, and it was nothing unusual 40 years ago or so. It's only recently that 14-18 year olds are considered children. In my opinion, they should be treated as slightly stupid young adults. That's not to say I thing 14- year-old girls should be cruising the singles bars... I just don't think their 17-year-old boyfriends should go to prison for getting a little too enthusiastic and getting them pregnant.
