Anyone have the New IE Browser?

http://news.com.com/IE+is+evolving%2...tml?tag=st.pop

What's new now
The new improvements to IE won't change much in terms of looks, but some of the changes will likely be immediately obvious to users. The biggest updates include:

? a new pop-up blocker that will stop most pop-up advertisements from appearing;

? an "information bar" similar to that in Outlook 2003 that will replace traditional pop-up dialog boxes to notify users of active downloads, blocked pop-ups, and other background activities;

? better management and notification of "browser helper objects," small pieces of add-on technology often used by spyware and adware developers; and

? a host of security fixes aimed at blocking identified flaws.

The release that includes the updated browser is available on Microsoft's Web site in a version aimed at administrators updating several computers. Individual releases will be available through Microsoft's online update service over the next few days and weeks.

Just curious how it effects pop-ups?

I heard that popup featuring tranny paysites won't be stopped. Don't ask me why

Yes it blocks all popups . Unless they are started from inside your own zone. ( except one secret one )

So... Does anybody have it already??

Hopefully Billy Gates did a good job on this one.

So it seems to be only avaliable for XP users via SP2 right now?

I am afraid to load the whole SP2 on the box, I was hoping I could just get the new browser standalone . . .

I use the google bar on explorer whenever I use it and that pretty much blocks all popups.

You guys should try firefox if havent already. Tabbed browsing, fast, and a built in popup blocker. Its also got a shit load of plugins for various other features.

Yes, Firefox is very nice. I havent gotten 1 unwanted popup since I started using it.

It comes with SP2, looks pretty much the same as previous IE version.
How it works? I don't know, I don't use IE...

evildick 08-12-2004 08:42 PM

If you just want the popup blocker then just download google toolbar as others have mentioned. It works great, and is handy for checking Page Rank anyway.

I'm staying away from SP2 for now.

I can't understand why people still use explorer other than testing reasons...

I was in SP2 beta for about 2 months before the release, and I don't notice a difference in XP at all. IE on the other hand, different story. When it blocks a popup, it drops a tan bar at the top of the browser to tell you it blocked a popup, or a download, or whatever. Personally, I find their popup blocker more annoying than the popups, so I turned that shit off.
