Why do sponsors create 'talking banners'

Because they get everyone's attention and it's effective.

That's how publicity works, the more you talk about it, the more it's working.

what about when it pisses you off so much that you turn flash off and you don't see them anymore?

no flash enabled...but when/if I use IE...i like that zannycash banner

Some sponsors are out of touch and don't actually read GFY.

but if you use something like Flash Switch you can turn flash on and off by clicking an icon in the taskbar.

Because they get used and they work.
