Do you support a 30% national sales tax on everything? Bush does.
Republicans calling for this say it will help the economy. It will, for some... those with larger incomes. Who it will not help is poor or middle class. If you have large medical bills, the government gets 30% on top before you even start to pay for the amount owed. 30% tax on food and medicine should really thrill senior citizens who have already lost prescription assistance.
According to a couple of articles I've read (below) the Republicans supporting this measure don't want to risk the issue being a hot topic during the campaign, so they'll wait until after the elections to continue pushing for this. Bush: 'We ought to explore' dumping IRS for sales tax A National Sales Tax No Vote The Case Against Tax-Reform Leadership Bush won't bite IRS in campaign Google news national sales tax |
Yowser, that sounds horrible.
We have the GST here in Australia which is 10% on everything. Although, our fuel has about a 45% tax on it as well, then the GST on top of that. A tax on a tax! I also lose about 45% of my income to tax as well... gotta love Australian tax law! |
Remember that come election day :thumbsup

im fucking sick of bush's retarded ass

Give me a flat income tax and I'll support this 30% national sales tax.

"Senior citizens who have already lost prescription assistance." They never had assistance until Bush got it for them. Don't listen to these guys one lies and the other swears to it. :1orglaugh |
My income tax rate is 40% now, and will just go up as my income does.... I would love 30% tax, think about it, the corporations wont have taxes.. their costs are lowered instantly and prices will go down, so the price of the items you want to buy will not actually go up a whole 30%.
|
I used to support a flat tax.. now I don't know. You won't be able to hire a better accountant to pay less taxes. Some people will pay more taxes, some less. And a sales tax? Aren't they trying to get people to buy more to stimulate the economy? Talk about flip flopping.

This is something called a regressive tax. It takes away a far larger percentage of income from poor people than it does from rich people.
This from the President who didn't want to 'balance the budget on the backs of poor people'. I guess he wasn't lying, because he doesn't appear to have any concern about balancing the budget at all. |
I havnt researched this yet but I think I like it. Damn did I just agree with bush for a second? Oh shit. No!
|
I like the idea, but I worry about those who have low or fixed incomes, that 30% is a lot more then they have to pay the IRS, and they typically have to ration and spend all the money they make.
If there was a way to keep them afloat, and implement the sales tax, then I'd support it. |
If they didn't apply the tax to food, medicine, health insurance and a certain amount of clothes and possible child care it might not be that bad. If you didn't tax those key items I mentioned it would really help the lower income people.
I could be a fan of a flat tax.. but I think Bush would figure out a way to screw us all.. so I don't trust a word out of his mouth. |
No more IRS bullshit! That would rule.
