i mean no disrespect to anyone who is mentally disabled.

Considering many of them would take MUCH better care of their children than too many "normal" people, I don't really see why this should be an issue.

would the kids be safe with 2 parents who were mentally disabled? there is no question that they would love their kids, but would they be able to take care of them the way another parent could in a dangerous situation?

That would be determined on a case-by-case basis. If somebody can't care for their children, the child is taken away. This is the same situation.

honestly, i have nothing against anyone with physical disabilities having children. but when it comes to mental disabilities i believe there should be a line drawn. i feel that the kids would be unsafe.

imagine there was a small kitchen fire, or the parents wanted to have their child sleep in the same bed, etc...

i dont believe that they would understand how fragile a child is.

My mom owns a business that manages the finances of mentally and developmentally disabled people. She has two clients that are retarded and married with a child and its SO sad. They are definitely not capable of taking care of her. The child mostly lives with her grandparents.

The retarded womans parents were worried about her getting pregnant before it happened so they looked into their options and found out its illegal to have a retarded person get a hysterectomy or vasectomy even if you are the legal guardian.

So its a little crazy that the social security admin requires these people to have a legal guardian and financial representative but they are allowed to have kids.
