Rapist back in jail after winning £7m in the lottery


A RAPIST was back behind bars today after scooping £7 million on the National Lottery while on weekend leave from prison.

Iorworth Hoare, 52, who is serving a life sentence, was on temporary release staying at a Middlesbrough bail hostel when his numbers came up in last Saturday?s Lotto Extra draw.

But worried officials immediately moved him to a closed prison amid fears he would flee the country with his jackpot.

According to reports, Hoare, a coal miner?s son, began a series of sex attacks while he was aged in his 20s and was sentenced to a total of 18 years between 1973 and 1987.

His catalogue of crimes include one rape, two attempted rapes and three indecent assaults.

Hoare, formerly of Seahahahahaha Gate, Leeds, was jailed for life at Leeds Crown Court in 1989 for attempting to rape a 60-year-old woman in a park in the city.

Bizarrely, he was trapped by a photograph he sent to a television station in a effort to be chosen for the Winner Takes All quiz show.

He was on weekend leave from Middlesbrough?s South Bank bail hostel when he won his £7,039,469 fortune.

Under Home Office guidelines prisoners in open conditions - on a day release or community project - are allowed to take part in the lottery and claim prizes. They can also play the football pools and buy Premium Bonds.

Following his win, Hoare was moved to a closed prison for "security and his own safety". It is understood a reassessment of his security status is being carried out.

Neither the Prison Service nor National Lottery organiser Camelot has the power to withhold his money. But as so long as he stays in prison he will be restricted to a cash limit of about £2 a day, in line with other inmates.

yeah, it isn't a normal thing for rapists..day release sometimes happens but I thought it was more towards the end of their time to start getting them back into society. Halfway house type of stuff. I don't know about his case though.

I beg to differ...depending on how much time he has left, the article says he's only allowed 2 pounds a day..how tortured would you be if u knew u had millions sitting there and u couldn't touch it??? I'd be pulling my hair out..especially if I had to wait 20 years to get at it! Could u imagine the anxiety??:mad:

yeah but surely God could see that money like that could do a lot of good to one of the very poor people that bought a ticket but lives a good life. Now, a rapist has their money.
