Tell me your favoraite/most trusted Domain registrar

I know this has been posted 1000 before on GFY. I bookmarked a bunch people had recommended, but the other day my bookmarks got wiped out  Right now I'm using godaddy. I'm getting ready to transfer my domains to something else.

InsaneMidget 08-10-2004 08:18 PM

I like registerfly.com

thumbsdepot 08-10-2004 08:34 PM

directnic.com
namecheap.com
registerfly.com
1and1.com

abadfish 08-10-2004 08:40 PM

I register all of my domains at directnic.com. I like to have all of my domains at one place with one control panel.

Tam 08-10-2004 09:12 PM

www.domainnamesystems.com
Been with them for more than 5 years and I wouldn't use anyone else. I tried a couple of others, but hated them....... Domain Name Systems answers their email...... EVEN on weekends. lol

=^..^= 08-10-2004 09:55 PM

fr8 08-10-2004 09:57 PM

To me Enom is the only way to go. Like them so much I got the 6.95 reseller and it didnt cost me what they say. Try $62. :)

fatbaby 08-11-2004 04:23 AM

DirectNic is the only place I trust my domains to..... been with them for several years now, and can't imagine leaving.....

Taboo 08-11-2004 04:54 AM

enom.com

re: 1and1.com

very HARD to transfer away from if you have many there.

cheap hosting tho.

Living For Today 08-11-2004 04:55 AM

They never answered my emails nor responded to several trouble tickets I put in a couple of years ago :) Things might have changed, but I moved everything to Directnic

Well, I moved everything except for the domains of mine Domain Name Systems put into their name (the reason for my emails/trouble tickets) and have since given away/sold.

Directnic all the way :)

arachnO 08-11-2004 07:28 AM

wow, that sucks...... but this is the very first thing I have ever heard bad about them. When I first started doing this, they were so awesome to me, I'd fuck shit up left and right, couldn't figure out the dns thing....... it was messy, but they never once got rude or impatient or anything with me.

I had a few domains expire and almost lost them, and they held on to them for me........ have had hell transferring from other registrars to them, and they have always gone above and beyond to help me. I had one place tell me I had to go thru all this legal shit just to transfer my own domain name away from them and Domain Name Systems picked it up and took care of their asses for me.......

I know everyone doesn't like everyone else, but these guys have always been extremely good to me and I can't honestly think of a bad word to say about them. I am sorry you had hell.... that's unfortunate because they really are good people, maybe you just got a hold of a bad rep, every company has those. :winkwink:

Jer 08-11-2004 07:40 AM

I use www.dotster.com since 2000, never had a problem with them

Webcam Guru 08-11-2004 08:19 AM

I dealt directly with Gord :thumbsup

Something was going on there at that particular time because I was one of at least a large handful of webmasters I knew PERSONALLY (which back then wasn't as much as I know now, lol!) that were having the same kind of problems.

I ended up losing 3 domains completely over it. Not good ones, but domains that were mine and I was ignored when I asked why they had been changed over. :(

Hopefully things HAVE changed, which I have to assume since if they were still treating people the same way, they'd be out of business by now :winkwink:

Just check on your domains frequently. I can't remember what prompted me to find the first one they had changed over, but it was when I started checking each one (had about 500) that I found the others.

OpenSRS. Not the cheapest, but very dependable.

justsexxx 08-11-2004 10:07 AM

Interesting thread. What was the registrar where ""crackers" could create fake forms and such to hack the account, and link the dns to their own?

In other words, which registrar had security flaws recently

BTW I use www.dd24.net

Andre

montel 08-11-2004 11:50 AM
