Losing the ability to write?
Is anyone else so used to doing everything online and with a keyboard that they've almost lost ability to write with a fucking pen or pencil?
I was filling out a form today and realized that my writing has gotten worse than that of my kids... Has anyone else noticed this about their handwriting? |

Absolutely. My writing hasn't been this bad since I was about 7. I hope I never have to fill out another job application.
|
I thought I had lost it.. but we went to my GF's mothers birthday, and I had to write the fucking card since my writing is so good. lol.

yes, i was almost embarrassed when i was leaving a note for someone the other day...i rewrote it twice cause i just couldnt believe it was that bad.
|
My handwriting has always been poor, it has gotten worse since working online.
It is chicken scratch, I am the only one who can read it. |
Yeh, it sucks. I can't write for shit.
|
Yes, I have almost lost the ability to write legibly.
|
YES! when i go to address an envelope i am frightened by what's happened to my handwriting/printing. i even try to slow down like i was in the third grade to make it neater, doesn't help much.
|
Thats what happens when you get too useto typing on the computer.
|
My handwriting was shitty and messy to begin with....
What i find hard is writing like you are supposed to wtih complete sentances, paragraphs, and other normal writing stuff I don't do on the boards. |
I can still write but the other day I did wonder outloud when the last time I used a pencil was and not a pen.

I also have this really bad habit of constantly going over certain letters a couple times...but I picked that up before I started using a keyboardso often...O's and C's, I sometimes have to write over them 3 or 4 times....I think it's some kind of OCD....or I'm just retarded |
I stopped writing when I was about 12 and never did it again except for my signature, I don't even remember how to do alot of the letters now.
|
I was talking about this here the other day - it's gotten pitiful.
I sent a birthday card to a friend from high school the other day who has seen my handwriting for 30+ years. I wrote a long friendly note. He called me when he got it and asked if I was drunk when I wrote it, lol! And where's the damn spellcheck and backspace key??!!! Printed cards for Christmas this year! |

I have never been able to write well but I have to admit it gets worse like everything else that you don't practice...
|
My handwriting has definitely gone to shit the past 5yrs or so. My dad brought me up with a drafting board in front of me so all my life my lettering was impecably sharp and legible. Now I'm ashamed just to write down a friggin phone number... :helpme

I can't even sign my name properly nowadays. :1orglaugh

My signature remains better than ever, but I had a horrible experience getting my handwriting up to speed recently.
Earlier this year I sat for the bar exam (successfully). You can type in my state but must use an IBM-style, no memory machine (fuck that). I had to do a lot of practicing. It was painful at first. My hand simply wouldn't cooperate. But it came back quicker than you'd think. Too add to the pain, I'm a sloppy lefty and you have to write fast on the bar - which means my fast writing tends to look like chicken scratch. Whenever we have to fill out forms and such manually, I defer to my wife. She has kickass penmanship. |
I went to Catholic schools growing up. Penmanship was more important to those nuns that math or english was.

absolutely, and what's really sad is even when I do write i ONLY print, and now it looks like I'm writing chinese... reason I noticed this is I began doing some journaling for some course I'm taking and went back to look at it and WOW, the nuns in Catholic school would kick my ass for writing so poorly today... |
Went through the exact same thing.
I keep a journal now though, keeps me in practice and maybe my writing will become better than when I learned the first time.. |

No way. I compulsively write to-do lists all the time. For work, errands, etc.
There is no way I can take notes through my computer, wouldn't be as useful. I scribble stuff on a notepad all day. And I also think this helps my wrists and fingers since its a different action than typing. And I refuse to contribute to the demise of good penmanship. :) |
OMG, Im glad Im not the only one! I was at my moms and copied a recipe onto a recipe card and my hand was SO tired after one little card. Sheeesh!
|
yea its bad I used to use a litle laptop at school so my writing was in decline from about age 16 onwards and it was never that good
|
hell ya! no one can even read it. when i goto stores to write checks looks like a 5 year old wrote it out.. they alwyase take it and look at it crazy for a few seconds

Hell yes, same for me. |
Every time I pick up a pen I find myself wishing I could just type it now.
My writing absolutely sucks for legibility now. |
My handwriting always sucked, so it hasn't really changed. It pisses me off when filling in forms because typing is just so much faster... and I don't have to look when doing it.
|
I hear ya, bruh.... my handwriting looks jacked up cuz I don't write shit by hand no mo

Mine got better.

This nagging little touch of carpal tunnel isn't helping matters either. Neither is the broken index finger I had on my writing hand from years ago.
Oh God I'm fucked. |
this thread is almost 2 months old now, but funny enough I thought about this again the other day...
I was filling out some PTA forms and thought "fuck, maybe I should have my 7 year old daugher fill this out" |

That's special. |

Ya we're on the same dilemma
