Does Outsourcing kill jobs in your Country?

does it? or does it create more jobs and helps corporations stay profitable?

what do you think? :)

mookienow 08-10-2004 02:53 PM

Outsourceing to another country is bs.

Microsoft tried this a while back and there support sector is folding... If your gonna outsource keep it in the states biatch. Cause If you edont you will have a bunch of ppl hateing your ass, and calling you wondering wtf is up with pepole that cant speak english....

rambler 08-10-2004 03:44 PM

I would say it definately kills jobs in your country that any menial labourer can do but it challenges your workforce to be better skilled and therefore get better paying jobs.

It is definately a lot more profitable for huge corporations, even Microsoft which is expanding their foreign labour market.

axelcat 08-10-2004 03:45 PM

outsourcing makes sense:thumbsup

Jer 08-10-2004 03:49 PM

No, it creates jobs in Brazil :Graucho

God is Brazilian

pxxx 08-10-2004 03:58 PM

No, i dont really think it kills jobs over here.

Doctor Dre 08-10-2004 04:24 PM

Definitly kill jobs .

harvey 08-10-2004 04:41 PM

So you hate outsourcing?
It's very easy, just make a revolution in your country, win it (of course :winkwink: ) then change the capitalist system for socialism (not even comunism), now extend revolution to more countries until the majority of the world is under socialism (better if all countries), and then you won't have to worry about outsourcing. Since imperialism (or globalization if you don't like the name) is the superior phase of capitalism, just end imperialism and capitalism and globalization (and then outsourcing) is over! :winkwink:

So you know, don't vote Bush, don't vote Kerry, make a revolution! :1orglaugh

mardigras 08-10-2004 05:06 PM

Oh no, closing down a US factory then opening a replacement in another country doesn't cost US jobs. How could it? :1orglaugh

:winkwink:

Raf1 08-10-2004 05:10 PM

yes it does, but it can also help companies grow. It depends on the kind of job that's being outsourced and what country it's being outsourced to.

zzgundamnzz 08-10-2004 05:13 PM

Yeah, it does but sometimes its a necessity. Its always better to get stuff assembled or made in another country. But support and tech jobs should be kept in the states... don't want some indian of filipino dude that I can barely understand giving me tech support.

well, then you shouldn't ask for support or customer assistance to IBM, Intel, Citibank, Mastercard, Microsoft, Oracle and many more since you won't understand shit :(

Lee 08-10-2004 06:19 PM

Yeah and 99% of the time the service goes down the shitter :(

outsourcing kicks ass and anyone that disagrees with that has not even got the slightest clue how large an industry it is and how much work is outsourced overseas.

tyler86ed 08-10-2004 06:41 PM

I lost my real world job because of outsourcing. Yes it sucks, but employees are just numbers and bottom lines for a large coproration. I won't say which company I worked for but it was very high in the fortune 500. I lost my job, and about 400 people in my group as well.

On a side note: There is nothing more frustrating than calling customer support and getting some ass clown who can't speak english or fix your problem from a third world country. I hope the large corporations understand this one day. I've moved alot of my business around for cable and DSL because of this.

pure energy 08-10-2004 06:43 PM

It creates MORE jobs, IMHO. Since countries who outsource their jobs tend to be more developed, this clears out their economy of inefficiency and pushes their work force to upgrade their skills.:2 cents:

every companies first obligation is to itself and its own survivale first.

i wish employees could understand this one day.

the only safety and security you can count on in this world is that which you create for yourself... not that which you expect someone else to provide for you.

I can't agree with you more. I thought webmasters are by definition Businesspeople. They should understand the dynamic of lowering costs.

MissWetPanties 08-10-2004 07:13 PM

Costs, costs, costs. Blah, blah, blah. Companies have to keep costs down, wah, wah, wah. If companies had to keep costs down to SURVIVE it would be one thing, but tooooo many companies are outsourcing just to see higher profit margins and corporate greed SUCKS ASS, plain and simple. My cousin has been outsourced to death and she's in serious financial trouble with kids to feed. But you know what, nobody cares. Nobody cares because they don't see her, they don't talk to her, they don't know her. To the greedy companies, she doesn't exist and neither do her children. She's now working 2 jobs just to scrape by and she never sees her kids. It's really sad. And she's just ONE of the thousands of people put out of work by greedy companies every day.

I'm so sick of the mentality of the corporate world that "business is business" and people don't matter. If U.S. companies keep outsourcing, then U.S. citizens will be forced more and more to buy imported goods because they cost less (after all, they've lost their jobs to overseas workers) and they'll end up putting those U.S. companies out of business. And all I'll say is good riddance!

MissWetPanties 08-10-2004 07:15 PM

I can see all the outsourcing companies now. They're already getting their employees ready to create fake accounts on GFY and vote "NO" to this over and over at :2 cents: per vote! :1orglaugh

pure energy 08-10-2004 07:19 PM

Are you a business owner? You sure don't seem to act like it.

Outsourcing creates jobs in my country, hence why I started an outsourcing firm here. Canadian developpers (especially on the east coast) are fairly cheap, and can act as a great gateway between timezones. We have numerous customers in california that use us as a liason between them and another development team in India. The benefits and savings they have by being able to work their normal hours, instead of fucking around with schedules to talk to people in India, is simply amazing.

GO CANADA OUTSOURCING!

Illicit 08-10-2004 07:21 PM

it definately kills jobs... and the ones that are left over are for highly skilled professions that outsourcing just doesnt make sense

and what do you think 90% of the countries in the world think about what's been happening since 150 years ago?

Anyway, as far as your analysis has some logic, it's completely wrong. The companies doing this can choose to stop this whenever they want, US trade laws are the less "free market driven" in the world (out of communist countries, of course) and they'll protect their own industries if they feel they're in danger, as it always happened.

It's sad for your cousin, and that's true, companies don't care. But out of joke, that's something you gotta deal with in a capitalist country. In fact, it's the basis of all capitalism, so you must improve yourself to succeed in something as wild and mercyless as this system. It sucks sometimes, but it's the world we live in

^^ Spoken like a true corporate greed monster. ^^

And for your information, I own my own business (mostly mainstream) and have for about 3 years. I have NEVER outsourced ANYTHING, don't plan to, and I do rather well. I do well enough to be able to support myself and help my cousin out occasionally, which I wouldn't have to do if it weren't for the greedy money-mongers that put her out of work and forced her to work TWO lower wage jobs just to make LESS than the ONE job she had before. :(

If I come to a point where I need to hire employees, they will definatley be U.S. citizens. Hopefully I can give my cousin a job soon so she can finally spend some time with her kids.

Greed. That's all it is. Period.

the point that you are not capable of grasping is that when you come to a point where you need to compete or grow a real business - you will not succeed by paying 10 times more for labor than necessary or than your competitors are.

simply put... it won't be your decision to make. the market will make it for you. there is a reason fruit pickers dont make $20.00 an hour... because no one is ready to pay $20.00 for a glass of orange juice. you can take the moral high ground all you want and you will still go bankrupt as others do what you are doing except do it cheaper and more efficiently and create a more effective and healtheir business.

people act as if cheaper/foreign labor is a new concept. its what every economy is built on. go to the poorest countries on earth and there will always be poorer immigrants doing the labor. go to the shittiest villiages in Eastern Russia and you will be surrounded by Chinese and North Koreans ready to work longer, harder and better than anyone else. Its what every economy is built on except your imaginary little micro-economy that exists only in your utopian dreams of building a better and more perfect world where everything is fair and little children never cry.
