certainly not dead... i am sure all will be explained in a pinned GFY release sometime

Tera 08-10-2004 11:30 AM

LOL yes they are dead, gone, just like that! Give me a break..

I have not seen or heard anything to give me the feeling they are dead. TCG is a reputable and great program in this industry. Downtimes happen, and they are answering support and making posts regarding it.

TCG will rise again!!!

Business as normal. No links have changed, no actions taken to change traffic to other sponsor programs. They are going to pay for the downtime as promised so I'm not worried.

cant be good for retention or keeping cb % low to have your members sites disappear for days.. .

JSA Matt 08-10-2004 11:34 AM

They are just getting ready for version 20.0.5.5.1 :glugglug

BradM 08-10-2004 11:34 AM

Links have been pulled I'm sure but as soon as it goes back up links will go back up too.

That is if the problem is what they claim it to be.. Seems like some people think it might be something else...

Wonder why some can and some cant see it. Gotta be DNS issues, anyway, TCG allways takes care of me, downtime or not. i wouldnt worry too much.

if i would run my business based on what people think id be broke

BT 08-10-2004 11:39 AM

Guys trust me I am not making up stuff.. It was Network Appliance machine thats about $60k.. It has 36 drives and
all the data is mirroed across the drives. It is very unusual
that 2 drives go bad at same time with a machine like this.

We run cachefs on the tour servers but still has to call
the Net App box and in my wildest dreams did I ever
imagine 2 drives would go bad. Heck we even keep a spare
drive in stock for this exact reason. But it is not the type
of drive you can get at comp USA. Believe me I am sick
to my stomach about this down time and highly frustrated.

We are working as fast as we can and will be implementing
another round of redundancy to be pro active in the future.

We host with cavecreek and there is no other agenda or
issues than what I discussed. Ron C is a good friend of mine
and Ian at cavecreek knows about the problem but there is
not a darn thing they can do until we get the drive here installed
and tested.

I wish there was more I could tell you,, like I said before if
its any consolation ALL webmasters will be paid plus 10%
so Mike even though it sucks big time that we are down you will get more money on your next check.

Don't you just love conspiracy theories. Maybe the boogie man ate the WM Database.

its nice to see a comment from the boss.

ColourMeHuman 08-10-2004 10:22 PM

Yes, very nice to hear from TCG. Know we have some understanding of what the deal was.

xclusive 08-10-2004 10:27 PM

Traffic Cash Gold DEAD? Yeah and there isn't money in TGP.. Ok wait bad example but don't worry they are going to be fine...

scoreman 08-10-2004 10:46 PM

I have never done any business with TCG, so what I have to say comes without an agenda about protecting my financial interests. I am disappointed with the lack of support many of the webmasters who are affiliates with TCG here are offering.

We also use Network Appliance filers and I can attest that they are about as bullet proof as can be. JB is not bullshitting on the cost thats for sure (our unit cost 72k). You just don't expect for that array to collapse.

Anyone who has run paysites for a while has probably been where JB is right now and its just sickening. The worst part is that for the most part you have to sit and wait while the raid is rebuilt/this drive is failed/ etc etc, all the while the mail starts flooding in from members, webmasters, your brother in law....

He already has stated he is going to make up for this, if you've pushed traffic his way in the past give the man a break right now and just be patient and wait this out. If you want to move traffic, I dont think anyone would fault you but all these threads with folks saying they are dead or worse are classless and totally unhelpful.

Rich 08-10-2004 11:40 PM

Notice no one who knows them or has actually sent any traffic to TCG is worried.

Volantt 08-11-2004 12:19 AM

Yes, raid appliances are usually rock solid. I would bet that no one saw that comming. Hope it all works out.

You didn't have a hot spare, or you did, and the second drive went down before the array rebuilt? Our first netapp box is going live (as a NFS gateway, we use a massive EMC SAN for mass storage) so I'm curious as to how this happened.
