I quit in October, 2003 -- My lungs are thanking me now

Ross 08-10-2004 03:18 AM

My mums fiancee has to stop. He had an angine attack two weeks ago. He's already cut down from 60 per day to around 10 or 12 per day. To me thats helluva good for someone who has been smoking for 40 years!!

He has a smokes clinic tonight and in the not too distant future I hope he can stop.

Ross 08-10-2004 03:18 AM

Oh and btw, I've never even tried smoking let alone started or quit :)

It could quit HIM at any moment. His angina is a warning sign.

Quit 3 months ago after smoking 2 packs a day for 10 years. Easier than I thought it would be. :glugglug

=^..^= 08-10-2004 04:14 AM

i cant even remember when i quit now - it's so long ago
but i did a have a cigar relapse a couple of years ago - that was coz i was drinking very haevily and if i drink - I smoke cubans

so i had to give up the drinking and i stopped with the cigars

i cant STAND the smell of cigarettes even if its just the smell on someone else it makes me sick -

but ohhhhhhh how i long for a cuban ...
I cant though .. coz if i do i'll drink - and then i'll smoke more cigars and get caught in a vicious cycle

been strong over 3 years now :thumbsup

mntyler 08-10-2004 05:03 AM

I smoked 2 packs of camels a day for a decade. Then I quit.

I quit 4 months ago and had smoked for 20 years. I do feel a hell of a lot better already.

I reccomend anyone that is smoking to quit. A cigar every once and while wouldn't be that bad but cigs, there is nothing cool about them.

uno 08-10-2004 05:31 AM

This is day #2 of not smoking for a while.

Peaches 08-10-2004 06:41 AM

It's been about 17 years for me now. I still have cravings when I've been drinking, lol!

Nightraven 08-10-2004 06:57 AM

still posting even though I haven't quit....
But then again, the countereffect all the PE I'm doing should cancel it out.
As for the cancer - well, I don't live in a big city, and don't eat too much junkfood (definitely not Supersize-me amounts), so that evens it out I guess.

5 Months no smiking for me here ! :thumbsup

mindoza 08-10-2004 08:22 AM

it will be 8 years in feb...I still crave one after dinner from time to time and they look so good when I watch others smoke..then I just smell their hand afterward and I am turned off!

when I first quit I kept a container full of cig butts mixed in with a little water open up that container and smell..that would be enough to stop the urge!

basschick 08-10-2004 08:32 AM

after 10 years of smoking, i quit. haven't had a cigarette in about... well, let's just say that i haven't smoked for longer than some of the people on this board have been alive ;-)
