What Juicy said.

I definitely be leary of this thing.

Kind of interesting though...I read that Microsoft spent over $1 billion to make SP2!

Spunky 08-09-2004 09:44 PM

It sure as hell doesn't work on my machine....:BangBang: Blue screen on startup

Jay_StandAhead 08-09-2004 09:46 PM

I've been running SP2 on 2 of my computers for 3 days now. It seems very stable, and so far the only compatibility issue is with Nero.

You mean behind...

Juicy, I don't think you have anything to worry about with this update. It is nothing but good patches and will not harm any of the precious programs you use. There will not be a 2.1 patch out anytime soon... this is all you are going to get.

If you have pirated copies, however, you *may* get locked out of the OS :glugglug

LOL, that's only one month's NET Profits for Microsoft. They're clearing $12 Bil a year right now.

Well from this (All I use is nero) and the blue screen on startup post, I won't be installing this. :(

Can Microsoft ever do anything right?
With all of this money they pull in, can't they hire soem decent programmers?

Betray 08-09-2004 11:57 PM

Satisfaction 08-09-2004 11:57 PM

AlxCds 08-10-2004 12:16 AM

my nic card was put on a "limited status". 10 minutes later after unistalling it is back to good ol' sp1.

TheJimmy 08-10-2004 12:17 AM

installing any new release of MS stuff is wacky as hell...

if you have a computer you don't care about and are bored out of your mind, sure...otherwise, wait for the 2nd release...

the 2 in SP2 indicated it's a "2nd" service pack... :)

lol, yeh I thought about that after I posted woj...thanks for the symantics catch ;P

I was wondering if anyone would catch it...

I was meaning to say the 2nd release of the SP2...cuz you KNOW it'll happen within a week or 3...I wish there was somewhere to lay a wager on that, would be easy money...

:winkwink: :thumbsup

I like how people get scared like you guys actually use some 1980's IBM banking software that is going to malfunction when you install SP2. There is nothing to worry about with this service pack, there will not be another one anytime soon so "waiting a couple weeks" makes no sense...

I'll take that bet. :glugglug

Mr Dickovitch 08-10-2004 11:18 AM

They didn't rerelease sp1 so why would they with sp2? Also I'm using sp2 right now and it's rock solid.

RFlagg 08-10-2004 11:21 AM

There are just too many variables for MS to try to achieve 100% success rate with a deployment this big...

The main reason to drag your feet on the install is two fold:

1. The more ppl that install and relate thier story.

2. There are only sooo many support channels, the sheep will be installing it first because of promised security measures. So they in turn will be sucking the life out of existing support channels.

there's nothing in this Service pack that'll print money, so ...unless you HAVE to install it for some reason, I would wait til the hubub dies off a bit.

:2 cents:
