A Great Quote On Doing Business With Friends

"A friendship founded on business is better than a business founded on friendship."
- John D. Rockefeller

I can't agree more with this, your thoughts on this quote?

Never disrespect people on your way up because you are going to pass them one day on your way down.

It's an "ok" quote but it's also bull shit. A friendship found on (more like based on) business isn't much of a friendship at all.

I do business with a lot of people and have great working relationships with them but that certainly doesn't mean we're friends. If we stopped doing business together tomorrow I highly doubt we would contact each other regularly to see how things are going. That isn't any kind of friendship.

Theo 08-09-2004 06:09 PM

Who am I to dispute Rockefeller? :)

shermo 08-09-2004 06:13 PM

I don't agree 100%. It's just easier to do business with people you trust. Anybody can smile and pay you a compliment, but will people be there to bail you out and likewise? That's the definition of a true friend. Do I do biz with friends? All the time. Have I been screwed? Not by the people that I trust. :thumbsup

if you let money fuck up a friendship you're not much of a friend

Jace 08-10-2004 02:43 AM

the only businesses I do with friends are the not so legal sorts of shit.....that way we can party and do business at the same time...it bites me in the ass sometimes, but the party is usually worth it

If you let people bend you over too many times then you're either a whore or an idiot or both.

true that, cool quote. it's strange how how money or fame can probably fuck up the strongest friendship too some degree.. i mean there are a lot of examples. one that springs to mind is simon & garfunkel..

lim_joe 08-10-2004 02:50 AM

i think it makes alot of sense!

pure energy 08-10-2004 03:01 AM

The IRONY of this quote by Rockefeller is he FUCKED OVER many of his earlier friends/business partners when he bought them out for chump change.

Little wonder, Ole' J Rockefeller is the model for Monty L. Burns of the Simpsons

I think its a nice quote, but to be honest I think friends can go into business together.

Just my thoughts.

True to some extent. If you manage no to mix one with the other.

The biggest scams and frauds have been committed in the name of friendship and trust.

A Great Quote On Doing Business With Friends would be simply:

Don't

pxxx 08-10-2004 06:35 AM

Thats true i agree with you.

Firehorse 08-10-2004 01:20 PM

I like the quote although it is a generalisation and doesn't fit every situation. :2 cents:
