SEO guys... are you in the "sand-box" ???

What's everyone's take on the current SE situation? The engines have been at a complete stand-still for months now... any ideas on when the "big update" will hit? With all the new ranking algorithms, is anyone changing their once proven methods???

for those not knowing: sandbox effect relates to google and its algorythm indexing or better not indexing NEW domains/websites on competitive search terms.

And yes
I had a few brand new sites effected a couple of months ago. Give it time and continue to build a nice linking sheme and you will be fine in the end.

All I know is that google will be owned by me 2-4 weeks after I pushed the "create" button on my new, apocalyptically large sized project :Graucho

Is that the www.world-domination-blog.com?

No I'm using the same concepts and points I always have. I'm rarely affected negatively by the search engines due to the age and structure of what I maintain.

lol, i just wanted to ask "WTF ???? mary34d talking about SE's" ....till i took closer look at your nick :1orglaugh

I think the guys at google finally realized that their "as little manual intervention as possible" policy isn't working well short term. With a longer periods between pagerank/backlink updates, they win some valuable time to improve the algo.

I expect some big changes soon, too many articles about spam in google and the competitors grow stronger, yahoo has it's own crawler, msn seems to be preparing for something big (the bot activity is crazy)...

I hate sitting and watching, but atm I don't see any hints to what they could come up with...:feels-hot

WiredGuy 08-09-2004 11:58 AM

I'm not seeing the sandbox effect. I've had a solid 10+ new domains added in the last week or so. A new one just added last Friday. Seems fine to me.

I'm fresh back from SES in San Jose.

No talk in regards to the staleness, outside of the normal conversations of spam and such.

There was more talk of who's blackhat versus whitehat and why?
Lots of VC's on the floor. The GoogleDance was pretty kewl too.
Great business development opportunities out there.

There was 1 jacked up TV company there that introduced themselves in a manner that did not garner a very warm welcome from the SEO/SEM community.

Also, SEMPO was the talk of the show as well.

All in all, a great show for business...just not a lot of talk regarding change.

Yahoo and MSN seem to be the ones to keep your eye on. Interviews with some of these guys will be forthcoming on http://www.ynotradio.com

MattO 08-09-2004 04:12 PM

I'm wondering about MSN since I've been getting spidered like nuts by them lately.

Aren't we all!

I didn't thought that at first until I've seen your post and I was REALLY like ... "WTF"

Doctor Dre 08-09-2004 05:33 PM

If google don't get a LOT better, and I mean huge changes, it will get eaten alive by other giants (yahoo m$ ibm)

I don't see Google standing still - quite the opposite.

One of the major mainstream marketing boards has been talking about what Google is doing to pages generated from data feeds and they are not happy.

Several of the big data feed users over there are talking of going back to hand building pages.

I am calling you out WG.:Graucho
You may get your new sites indexed real quick but I doubt very much whether you can get them ranking for any real competitive keywords

Not exactly the best, but in the top 20 for some descent keywords. What is odd is that it seems to be going in and out of the index. Like one day I'm #11, the next I'm not in Google at all. Next day it's back and so forth. Rather weird to be honest.

This does seem to be a pattern, especially now at the moment with different serps on googles different data centers.
But google has always given a tempoary boost for new sites and then have them settle somewhere in between their fluctuations.

It's been nearly two weeks that this fluctuation has been happening. One index is absolutely horrible for me, the other is amazing. I really want it to stabilize, it would make my job a lot easier if it didn't look like a moving target.
