Do you have a TV in your computer room?
..... seems to me it would be an easy way to waste time, as if I needed a new way to do that.
I am thinking about getting a small high definition TV for my computer room so I can watch news and sports while I work, but I'm afraid it will only end up making me get even less work done that I currently do now. Any thoughts? |
For me, it's pretty distracting to have a TV on in the background while trying to work.
Yup, we have a 36" here in the main office which I turn on usually while everyone is having lunch and it stays on for the rest of the night until the last person leaves.
Its on mute at times when we play music or we've got a conference call. |
I'd spend a lot more time in the office if I had a TV in there... now I just sit on the couch with the laptop and the tv on, its so comfortable
I do. It sits to the right. But the angle of the main minitor keeps me from looking so I just listen. If I do look over I have the second monitor blocking my view. My desk is shaped like and L. Each half has a monitor of its own. And the second one blocks the tv out.

i turned the dinning room into my office (since we only live in a 1 bedroom apartment) so i see & hear the tv in the living room....very distracting :BangBang: i love working when the Mr is either sleeping or at work. :glugglug |
Yes, because you can do your job and watch your favorite tv show at the same time.:)
Yup right next to my desktop. 27" Flat screen.
Ordering a 17" monitor lcd with tv tuner built in this week. Im thinking about just mounting that on the wall next to me. :Graucho |

I like to have the TV on in the background just for noise if nothing else.
But then I normally work on notebook with wireless network, so I'm also prone to be out on the back deck. I've found that the more comfortable and relaxed I am, the more work I get done. Good chair is one of the most important parts of an office or home office. |
we have tv in the office (always have) and it was okay until we got satellite TV installed - now theres heaps of kool shit on all the time
right now im findsing it hard to work as im watchig Crouching Tiger on Dvd for the zillionth time - but i prefer to watch it in mandarin with subtitles (more accurate translation) so I have to watch it to read what 's happenign :glugglug |
I just work on a laptop in the living room when I want to watch tv...
yes i do not a big one thou

DAMMIT!
i was going to do some work after Crouching Tiger finished and now dances with wolves is on NEVER put a tv in your office |
I have one, but since the time it's broken I got a lot more work done. So I'm not going to buy a new one...
i got 600 sporting channels and I never get any work done
yes. i just moved to a new house so i'll take a pic when i'm done setting up my home office again. But I was inspired by Matrix, Swordfish and the setup from movie "Zero Effect"...
Two 42" plasmas as monitors 5+ 13" TV/VCRs constantly recording only news/info channels (muted w/ closed captioning): cnbc,cnn,fox,msnbc,etc... i'm a news/info junkie and you never know when you'll hear/see something that'll change your life... 4+ PCs with 15" LCD/TVs. insane setup. pc Monitors open to adult, mainstream, domains, stats, streams, cams, tickers, scripts, email, im, blogbots, newsbots, etc. 4 dvd recorders downstairs recording digital cable tv feeds for programs I dont want to or can't afford to miss and music feeds from MusicChoice. I even have sony pc glasses that mimic 60" screen for rare video game breaks for xbox steel battalion, etc... I decided to put money into tech tools/gadgets. funny thing is I'm running electrical extension cords from other rooms into my home office. Its a nightmare and my girlfriend hates it. I'll probably die from some new form of radiation tech disease from sitting in this chair. And my GFs cat and dogs are afraid to come in the room. I don't dare to bring a glass of water in. Truthfully, I'd be distracted if I did not have all this stuff setup. :1orglaugh Here's the perfect furniture company: http://www.hergo.com/XQ/asp/category.1/QX/index.htm |
I used to but ended up taking it away from my main work computer, now I just have a machine in the living room too so I can have both a productivity machine and another as the dick around machine.

I can't work with a TV running either...just sucks.
I have a 62 inch TV practically right beside me and its always on when im working. Doesnt bother me a bit.
I have a tv in my home office, because I usually watch the news while I'm working
Yep, it's on in the background.
yeah i have one. usually have court tv on in the background. it doesn't seem to affect my level of work or provide too much distraction.
cant live w/o a tv in the room, its great to listen to while you work.

ive got a tv next to my computer, it doesnt distract me though. but thats probably because i turn it off or mute it when its time to work
I used to have a TV on in the background. It made it easier to work long hours. But it also made me less productive. I don't have one now and think it is better that way.
I have a TV a few feet to the left of the PC monitor. Been set up like that since the days of watching The Screensavers on TechTV and hanging out in their original chatroom.
I'm lazy enough as it is already. A TV would put an end to any work.
no, there must be seperation of church and state
nope. GFY is a bad enough distraction without having a TV in here too.
I always have the TV on while I'm working. Without that or music (sometimes both), I couldn't get anything done. I'd go nuts. I like a lot of background noise.
Of course. How else would I play my xbox? It's only 27". The 53" is upstairs. Note the treadmill in the bottom right corner, without which my ass would be even fatter. http://www.bunkfiles.com/Dscs0023.jpg

i have one that runs the stock channels all day long.

That's exactly why I don't have one in my office. I don't need any more distractions than I've already got.

I have a 28", but i dont follow it then i work.
