Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Anybody get it?

Between 14 hour on the computer, my motorcycles stunts, shaking hands with everyone everywhere I go, pleasing my girlfriends, I think its hitting me pretty good.

Any of you get it and is there an easy fix? I tried some WD-40 but didn't seem to work.

freeadultcontent 08-06-2004 12:56 PM

You left off masturbation.

Just_Dave 08-06-2004 12:57 PM

Shit sucks. I was a clarinet major for three years at Northwestern before that shit hit me and i had to give up playing. :( If it's starting to bother you now, get to a dr. before it's too bad to fix without a hospital stay.

crockett 08-06-2004 12:59 PM

surgery but it can still cause issues after that.. Have you tried one of those funky keyboards and maybe a wrist support for in front of your keyboeard?

Trixxxia 08-06-2004 01:01 PM

I have a 'healer' snap it clear & back to place every year

xclusive 08-06-2004 01:02 PM

Dude your fucked...There is no easy fix but here's a little tip for you for every 15 minutes of work take a break and stretch your forearms and wrists...

freeadultcontent 08-06-2004 01:08 PM

Seriously does this really even exsist?
I ask because I was speaking with my grandmother awhile ago about this topic. She became a secretary full time when she was 15 and left the company at 65. That is 7-12 hours a day 5 days a week for 50 years typing and she laughed at the notion.

Tam 08-06-2004 01:12 PM

Hell yes and it HURTS. I got it many years ago in my right arm from playing video games, and then in the left from my job and now have cubital tunnel, I think that is what they call it...... it's in the elbow. And it fucking hurts..... especially after as many hours as I have been putting in lately. :(

clickhappy 08-06-2004 01:20 PM

My hands used to hurt but I got an ergonomic keyboard and they dont hurt anymore.
I love it http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...&s=electronics

Semi-Retired-Dave 08-06-2004 01:24 PM

is it the key board or the Mouse. I would think its the mouse.

Using my grandmothers theory, have to be the mouse if this exsists.

chupacabra 08-06-2004 01:25 PM

i've had severe CTS for years now, cortizone shots help but only for a limited amount of time... i've found that HGH therapy seems to be the most effective fix, along w/ its other welcome side-effects..

Fletch XXX 08-06-2004 01:27 PM

clench fists and keep going.

ShellyCrash 08-06-2004 01:31 PM

I used to have it real bad. I have a friend who is a race car driver and he showed me some excercizes to help. I also added a wrist rest to my keyboard and one that attaches to the back of my mouse, so I move the mouse with my whole arm and not just the wrist. Helps ALOT!:2 cents:

baddog 08-06-2004 01:41 PM

there are braces, etc that you can use to prevent/delay the onset of CTS, but once you get it I believe the only solution is a carpal tunnel release (surgery).

As far as surgeries go, I have had worse, but it is a drag dealing with if you are single and your only transportation is a Harley.

what issues would those be? If it is done right it is pretty much impossible for it to recur.

I had a release done 10+ years ago, and never had any issues at all

iamkathi 08-06-2004 01:50 PM

It can reoccur. I had both hands done almost 25 years ago. Then, about 2 years ago I had to have my left hand redone.

The surgery techniques are much better now. This time I was an out patient and was online by that evening... but I am hard-headed too. :female

Best advice, get it checked out before too long.

wvuatl 08-06-2004 01:51 PM

the problem is you're counting way too much money...

hurts the joints

try glucosamine

warlock5 08-06-2004 01:54 PM

Make sure you computer is set up like OSHA recommends. I was starting to have problems again, changed my set up, and I've been good for a few months now.

Also take a rubber band and pull it open with one hand a few times. That has helped me in the past.

RockStar Deepai gets it after editing video for about 3 days str8. :thumbsup

robfantasy 08-06-2004 02:05 PM

Don't sleep with your wrists bent......cuts off circulation and makes the syndrome worse

bjjb 08-06-2004 02:08 PM

Not sure if its actually CTS but for the least year or so my right hand has been closing into a fist on its own once in a while and most of the time the pinky finger and whole outside edge of that hand is numb and or tingling 24/7. I switched the mouse to the left hand side of the kb and it seems to help some but the tingling in my right hanbd is still there. Thank god im left handed or id be screwed trying to wank properly :1orglaugh

This explains it all http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/computerworkstations/

I've been sitting wrong since 1996 when I first sat my ass on this very same chair for 10-20 hours a day.

Why didn't I see this site years ago.

Thanks.

I have it from playing the drums everyday since I was about 5. You can get medication for it, surgery or some wristband thing. They'll also have to "warm up" your wrists before you do shit, like twist them and move them around and things of that nature.

NichePay_Manny 08-06-2004 02:49 PM

Hey david it's time to take it easy! I am sorry to hear ur in pain.:(

Not sure about an easy fix.. but I think I have a little of that. I have a weird bump on the inside of my arm, across from the elbow that pops up from time to time.. kind of freaky.

wdsguy 08-06-2004 03:46 PM

Babagirls 08-06-2004 03:48 PM

Sharpie 08-06-2004 03:58 PM

My daughter (computer technician & fast-pitch softball pitcher) had it a few years back when she was about 24. She had to have both operated on. Not the end of the world, but damn inconvenient for awhile. Since she was my computer technician in my computer store, it was covered by my Workman's Comp.

I got a similar problem, gonna try a vertical mouse. A company called Evoluent is coming out with a new one this month. You can check it out at www.verticalmouse.com Check out the brochure here.

Sorry to hear that. Nice to know she is better now.
