I agree that if the roles had been reversed, the sentence would have been harsher. Then again, looking at it from a rational standpoint, I think she got a raw deal because she didn't harm anyone, and the relationship was consensual (though not in the legal sense). It seems like a waste of money to put a woman in prison for the mere act of having sex when there are violent offenders out there roaming the streets. And yes, my feelings concerning male statutory rapists are similar. Once two sexually mature people decide to have sex, the State shouldn't have the right to play God and decide what is right or wrong.

That's the problem. Some people can handle sexual relationships when they're 12-13 years old, while others NEVER acquire the emotional maturity to deal with intimacy. Each case is different and should be judged as such. Common sense should prevail.

It wouldn't be ok, but I don't think a man in such a position should go to prison (depending on the specifics of the case). Granted, he shouldn't have the right to remain a teacher either.

Like I said, every case is different. If there's any trace of coercion, then jail time is perfectly justified.

Putting her in jail was the only way they could keep her away from him until he was old enough to make a mature decision on his own. She did get off on a conditional sentence and comminuty service, but she violated her orders and her release was revoked.

Now that he's 21, he's old enough to choose for himself what kind of relationship he wants to have with her. A 12/13/14 year old boy doesn't have the maturity to make those decisions.

I'm looking at it from my own perspective as someone who was once 13. When I was that age, I was ready for a sexual relationship. If an attractive adult woman had shown any interest in me, I would happily have made a move of my own. Had a sexual relationship resulted from it, would I have felt like a rape victim? No. Would I have been abused? Certainly not. Should the woman have been punished? I can't see why. Could I have been coerced? Not one bit, as I was mature enough to make my own decisions. In essence, I was every bit as ready for a relationship at 13 as I was at 18.

Your comment about me not having children is irrelevant because the decision to become sexually active is entirely personal. As much as I would like my future children to wait until their early 20's to have sex, I know that they could very well decide to start at 14 -- and there's not a damn thing I can do about it.

I saw Villi (or whatever his name is) on the Today Show and he seemed like an average Pacific Islander to me. He doen't look traumatized or scarred by the experience.

If you believe that at 13 years old you were mentally prepared to make such decisions, then you are probably still very young. Granted, you may not have been traumatized, but you were still a CHILD.


Of course children will decide to do what they want, when they want. And, if my child has sex at a young age with someone else of a young age, then I won't have to kill anybody. But she was in her 30's with children near his age. Whether he knew better or not....SHE should have known better

I'd be very disappointed and I'd have long discussions with my son to see whether he's a homosexual or if he was simply coerced by an adult. If my son were truly in love and the older man in question treated him with genuine love and kindness, I would actually try to accept the relationship. It there was any sign of coercion, I would obviously call the cops and most likely file a civil lawsuit. I'd keep a close eye all the way, but I wouldn't pull the trigger too hastily.

No she did not deserve 7 years. She deserves life in prison to keep her away from kids. She is a predator and had been grooming her student FROM THE TIME HE WAS IN 2ND GRADE. She's totally fucked up and now so is that kid AND the kid they bred together.

If you've read any of the stuff about her, it's not just the case of an innocent mistake or poor judgement. It's not a case of a kid who was reasonably old enough to reciprocate her interest. It's a case of her grooming him from the time he was very young, taking advantage of her power as a teacher and respected adult, etc. She's a fucking nutcase and a menace to society.
