Canadians: Epassporte Electron Card

How do you find it in Canada? Any problems? Can you use it like a normal visa at restaurants and shit? Works fine in the ATMs?

i havent ordered one yet i have only been using it online.

i have a pass for a free card here but havent bothered to get around to ordering one

I have always been afraid to even try it in Canada thinking the exchange and charges will be sick...so I just keep it for when I am over the border and need US dollars.

Almost all atm's are fine. Restaurants , NO , not yet anyways. The conversion usd/cnd is fine, i think they hit you with a tiny fee , but not much.

And the Money Mart exchange rates and charges aren't? :1orglaugh

It's not so bad if you put your U.S. cheques in the bank... but I've never been patient enough to wait for them to clear.

No charges (except $2 ATM fee) and the exchange is fair.

Appreciate the info; hopefully that is true about Canada as well.

I have Not had any problems with Atms, dont think it would work in a restaurant though :2 cents:

Doctor Dre 08-05-2004 11:33 AM

I know one of my friend got refused ... but he spent 2000 $ at a restaurent . Fucking bullshit . He looked like an asshat .

Vitasoy 08-05-2004 11:40 AM

To reduce the embarrassments, best to withdraw cash off the ATM's.

Kimmykim 08-05-2004 12:19 PM

If your card was issued after March of this year, it should automatically be signature based.

This does not supercede your daily withdrawal or transfer limit, so unless someone got their limit increased to 2000, it wouldnt work, just like any other bank card with a limit. My Bank of America card, for instance, has a 5000 USD daily withdrawal or spending limit on it, unless I call them prior to making a larger charge.

This isnt rocket science ;)

I've had mine for about 2 years now and have had no problems withdrawing cash from Bank atm machines, but not from private atms - I have never been able to purchase anything at any store or restaraunt in Canada - although you can order food online.

How do I get one of the newer cards?

you don't need to get a new card, if you'll email me -- [email protected] -- I'll take care of getting yours switched to signature.

Just remember that in order to use it as signature you have to have the establishment run it as CREDIT, not as debit.
