Photoshop Gurus

I have 300+ fonts right now, but have literally 2-300 more that I'd like to use but cant since photoshop wont load if I have them installed on my pc:

P4 2.6CGHZ, 1Gig PC3500DDR, 74GB 10K RPM SATA Drive.

How can I get photoshop to load with more than 300 fonts installed?Everytime i try, photoshop crashes when reading "fonts".:helpme

just a suggestion. why don't you uninstall your photoshop first.. add your fonts. then install photoshop. hope that helps. :glugglug

never thought about that, but surely people arent uninstalling photoshop everytime they want to add new fonts...

Crashing with 300 fonts sounds strange. But regardless,
it is not a good idea to have too many fonts intalled.

Use a font manager like:

Then you can easilly find, preview, install and uninstall fonts as needed.

Adobe products can become a little flaky if you simply copy your fonts into the Windows fonts directory. You may need to install all of the fonts via the fonts link in the Control Panel. A good program for managing your fonts is Font Suitcase this should sort it for you.

could also be the SATA drive... just off the wall.. but SATA is just not cuttin it like it was advertised to be..

disc access events.. like reading all the fonts, inputting/outputting video onto SATA drives.. may cause it to freeze

anyhow.. i'm goin back to IDE and away from SATA for a bit... as i've read elsewhere that defective SATA drives have been returned to manufactures like mad...

A font is prolly corrupted, Windows will run like a dog if you dont have the system to load all those fonts everytime you boot up a proggie.....

xclusive 08-05-2004 12:38 PM

It's very strange I have about 1500 fonts at any given time in my default windows directory and photoshop automatically regognizes it every time...

shima 08-05-2004 12:40 PM

Upgrade your Windows maybe. XP is the latest verion out there, right?

Raf1 08-05-2004 01:11 PM

I haven't had those problems with photoshop before. Try installing ps again

MattO 08-05-2004 01:13 PM

You probably have one font that's corrupt, try adding them in smaller increments till it crashes then that might be the one.

MR2raymond 08-05-2004 01:20 PM

most freefonts are corrupted and some are installed directly to the C:\Windows\Fonts direct and could damage other fonts.. i got 2K+ fonts on p4 2.6 512mb pc400 and runs smooth....try going to the C:\Windows\Fonts and see for none TTF file... most of it is corrupted...

that ain't true, if you get your fonts from someplace like www.dafont.com they are good files

sounds as though you need xp, or some sort of font manager though

Doctor Dre 08-05-2004 01:27 PM

Weird . I got 2500 fonts here and it's working fine ...

Sata is fast as fuck ... I wouldn't change it for nothing

Jimmie 08-05-2004 01:33 PM

I just added SATA drives, switched over from IDE and had the problems with IDE...

Ive been using XP for 2 years or so, so I have the most current OS out....

Jimmie 08-05-2004 01:34 PM

maybe it is some corrupted fonts, i did a google search and it says not to load more than 500 fonts on windows....
