computer question...
hiya ppl... just formatted the computer and loaded everything back on... and i have an ati vid card... in the task manager it has the process ati2evxx.exe but it is listed there twice once under my user name and once under SYSTEM... is that correct?
also, has anyone else had problems with norton firewall recreating rules that are already there? do people recommend using a diff antivirus and firewall than norton?? |
the ati thing is normal
i dont know about the nortan thing though |
Dump norton. use blackice or zonealarm for a software firewall.
Cant tell you about the ati info. Im a nvidia guy. |

Work around them. I suggest a hardware firewall over software. OK, both :1orglaugh :1orglaugh Think Win XP SP-2 comes with a firewall turned on by default. |
i have the same norton problem as well.. its annoying to say the least...
|
yeah it is bloody annoying... the damn voodoo that happens inside computers... you can do everything exactly the same when doing a format and clean install and yet different problems can arrise each time!
another thing i have encountered is that sometimes when i start my computer or restart... my lcd monitor (samsung 172t) wont show the loading screen and will be blank until my computer gets to the blue windows window... other times it will show the loading screen?? im running winXP... ps. im running the latest nforce motherboard drivers and the latest ATI Radeon vid card drivers... |
ATI cards are a pain in the ass when it comes to conflicting with other hardware/software. I got mine because of the tuner but after I put XP on the system it was either choose to use the tuner or to be able to capture, so I went with capturing via line in. I've always hated the software that ATI provides and have used 3rd party software for almost every function.
I really wouldn't worry about the 2nd entry in System, but remove any entries in Startup. Removing everything in Startup except firewall, anti-virus and programs you are going to use right away (ie messenger, keyboard software) may cure the LCD monitor problem as it may be a program trying to run at Startup delaying it. |
