if aliens existed...

Why would they need to be humanoids?...

Why couldn't they be the size of an ant, with brain power that far exceeds ours?

Think about recent advances with technology.... we are always trying to make things do more, in smaller packages.

For example...single computers used to take up entire warehouses, now, in just a matter of 50 years or so, we have got them down to the size of an eraser head... that are like millions of times more powerful than the ones that used to take up entire rooms.

So if you were to imagine that another species has already gone through this process for even... ten thousand years or so, what's to say they wouldn't wind up making themselves smaller??

If humans were the size of ants, a lot more of them could fit on the planet & it's resources would last much longer.

For all we know, we could already be sharing this planet with hundreds of species whos intelligence is far past ours... they could just be smart enough to stay off our radar in that way. :glugglug

Wait ants are aliens? I knew it.

We do. They are called Senators. They are not human.

"Mother nature" and it's occassional wrath upon us could be nothing more than some pissed off super insects saying "Time to give these humans another warning that they're destroying everything...again..."

How much data could they send between each other and how fast?

How much data that you can't see or hear is roaming around you right now?

How do we know you're not an alien with secret information?

Mini-aliens would kinda be odd, would kids try to catch them like they would frogs or lizards?

jukeboxfrank 08-04-2004 07:23 PM

My ex was an alien.......for sure

Because I'm wearing a Nike shirt, drinking a Starbucks and holding two Walmart bags.

Good disguise huh?

Of course they exist, that much is obvious with today's knowledge of the vastness and richness of the universe.

But don't you think a species that had the technology to dramatically re-engineer their structures from a genetical level would also have the technology to re-engineer atoms so as to have as much free resources as they could possibly want any way?

I agree with the sentiment that they needn't be humanoid though. Even here on earth, the variety and number of hugely different life-forms is mind-boggling.

I was thinking more low-key mini-aliens who wouldn't want us to know they existed...

But it would be freaky to have to deal with aliens that were the size of gnats, much smarter than us, and were more than willing to flex their technological muscles to show us who's boss.

I'm thinking a butterfly net wouldn't work.

Anyway I have thought about this before... but it just came to me again when I was looking at my ipod headphone ear piece....

Sort of reminded me of that Star Trek ship....

We can even understand that concept now as something possible in the somewhat near future - through nanotechnology.

So how many more years and what kind of 'magic' would be required to keep our use of nanotechnology low key enough so that a certain species wouldn't be able to detect us using it?

For every problem there can be a solution - eventually. No? http://www.physics.tamu.edu/images/QUIZ/symbols/pi.gif

It's almost like were someones fish tank... it reminds me of how you have to be careful of what fish you put in the tank together... "Community fish" and all that.... how a lot of the "fish" in our aquarium live off each other, or each others by-products.

It does seem very well thought out. I'll say that.

Check out this link:

"Superintelligent Extraterrestrial Technological Civilizations"

Caveat:

In the last analysis, everything we believe or "know" about the Universe and even Existence itself, is little more than theory and speculation. What we hold as "facts" in 2004 will probably be seen as superstition in 3004. So, with that in mind, here is how I arrived at my personal theory that superintelligent, extraterrestrial technological civilizations are, or have been here, but have not been seen because they are microscopic and/or practicing a policy of non-intervention.
