ICQ Spamming
I registered another user on icq today for the girlfriend to use and as soon as I finished the registeration, I got a spam for some .ru adult site.
Is this just an unbelievable coincidence or has this person somehow linked into icq itself? Has anyone else registered themselves as a user lately? ------------------ LiquidThumbs Where Quality Counts ARS - Offshore - Mojo - Join4Free - Topcash |
I also registered a new user today. What I got was 3 adult sites added to my favourites list.
Sounds like ICQ is doing something wierd. Wildman. ------------------ ----------------------- A New way to Wealth - http://www.avscash.com |
There are people running ICQ bots that pick up any new registrations. I don't know how they do it exactly, but it can't be that hard since the UINs are fairly easy to figure out (rather than - say - user names or email addresses). The only "protection" ICQ uses in that sense is that they have gaps in the UINs for new registrations. But it dosn't help much. It's inherently flawed.
That's why you get so much more spam on ICQ than other IM systems. |

It must be a 'new user' thing. I've been on ICQ since early 98, and this hasn't happened to me at all. I get the odd spam here and there, but it's very random and sporadic.

You might have an ICQ trojan on your computer if your info is all getting changed around and stuff..
I have seen stuff like that for ICQ that basicly lets the person who knows what port the trojan is sittin at have total control over all Icq functions.. Including all messages that you either send or recieve.. I dont know if thats yer guys problems but thought I mention it.. |
