paid listings on search engines
Hey, I was wondering if anybody here has ever tried paying for listings on search engines and what your success/horror stories were?

I did way back when I tried to open a paysite without much money.
I spent $3000.00 with Excite. It got me around 80 members. But I was only charging $9.95 per month because I was only offering about a 3rd of the content that big sites offer. If you consider the average retention of 4 months or so then 4 X $9.95= $40 then X by 4 months= $3200.00. If you got the same conversions with a $29.95 site then it would be worth the time. ------------------ http://www.postforcash.com Finally, your galleries are paying you! Free content, while getting paid. What a concept! |
I've messed with them a little, the key is be very specific in choosing the words your buying.

Back in the days when I did that sort of thing, I spent a lot with three (they'll remain nameless) SE's. Don't really think it paid off in the end. I think the money can be better spent on other types of advertising.

Goto has gotten to expensive since they raised their price to 5 cents min. Yahoo at $600 can be worth it, if you have a pay site. I do like 1:400 conversion with yahoo traffic and can get anywhere from 200 to 2000 people a day from them with a listing. I've done a little experimenting with both yahoo and goto with a couple of AVS's but it did not convert worth the money spent, so stick to promoting your paysites with paid se spots.
