Ray@TastyDollars 08-03-2004 02:54 PM

You know how it goes. Bulid a TGP, accept galleries, build a good bookmark audience, close submision form, charge for gallery spots.

Thanks to all the dumb ass gallery submitter who helped my site grow, If you want to get listed now, you have to pay up.

I could be wrong yea know ;)

Ray, you're bit off on that. Something more along the lines of this would be accurate:

1. spend five years and a half years building up a site and a good bookmark audience
2. add some very basic TGP functionality to said site and list hosted galleries for sponsor programs.
3. spend even more design hours and hire a guy to run a full-fledged TGP and give away shit-tons of great CJ traffic (better than TGP traffic any day of the week)
4. meet the guys from RemoteThumbs.com who show you how you can not have to pay that guy to run the TGP sections, have better functionality than before so your surfers will be happier, and actually make money of that traffic that you spent all that time building.
5. convert one of your sites into a TGP only, adding even more traffic to your TGP sections
6. Finally, sell spots that you've been selling ALL along for the same price you were before even though there is now more traffic.

Could be wrong, but sounds like good business and staying true to our customers to me.

But is the quality of the remote thumbs galleries the same as when you had submissions?

That's key when you have bookmarkers to think about.

Start a paysite....build 300 hosted galleries, then add them to remotethumbs!

Be a little patient. Most TGPs that go to 100% hosted galleries re-open their submit form to partners once they see their bookmarks die off.

Patience is not a virtue I possess:(

Do you really think that CJ is getting some great benefit by accepting submissions? Don't they already have their main site which they sell traffic from and paysites? Seems like a submit tgp would be a bigger pain in their ass than it's worth to them. Not like it's their sole income. And I can bet you that them getting paid from every listing vs them getting paid from a few spots or banners while getting free galleries from webmasters works out to be much better for them.

CJ is not going to loose any traffic by using remote thumbs.

It will be interesting to see how TheHun does with all hosted galleries. Mind you, have seen some greet hosted galleries...but I have also seen a shitload of utter crap...500 galleries..using only 2 different templates..the pictures not hand picked but rather done by a program which just so happens to catch the worst ones of the lot.

Time will tell I guess

wyldblyss 08-03-2004 09:07 PM

Out of curiosity I was checking out remote thumbs...just to see how it would work for me rather than the old fashioned way I do things...and I'm not sure I get the numbers here.

Remote thumbs say they have 19,528 galleries.

Consumption Junction shows 54 catagories, each showing about 49 galleries each for "today" and 49 for yesterday.

So....49 galleries x 54 catagories = 2646 galleries used per day.

19,528 total galleries divided by 2646 galleries used per day = 7.38

Which means that they would have to repeat galleries every 7 days. Unless of course the same gallery is used in multiple niches on the same day which would mean they would last longer without repeating.

But....the math does not take into account how they are probably a lot more galleries in certain niches. For example, I assume teen would have the most galleries, hence the teen ones would last longer...but other niches like spring break, hairy etc. would have less, hence they would repeat pretty often.

To me, it sounds like it wouldn't take a person who surfed their daily very long before they started seeing a lot of familiar galleries.

Am I missing something here? Can someone explain to me how this works a little better? Also, the 19,528 galleries would require you to sign up for every single sponsor they have galleries for and some people may not want to do that. Any info would be appreciate...remote thumbs website didn't get into too much detail.

rakeback 08-03-2004 11:13 PM

I too was wondering about the remote thumbs program.

Having to signup for all those sponsers would suck especially since you'd almost have to, to avoid repeats..
