I have too much traffic for webalizer to handle. suggestions?

Webalizer can't keep up with my traffic. It does not update at times and crashes at least once a month. So I need to find another way to keep stats.

I don't want to add any code to html pages for stats. I wanted to keep stats on the server level but my host said with the amount of traffic I have that having a stats program run on the same server was not a good idea. What do you suggest?

Get a faster server.

get analog :thumbsup

s9ann0 08-03-2004 11:21 AM

try analog its in c and its fast http://www.analog.cx/

freeadultcontent 08-03-2004 11:24 AM

Skim/redirect the extra traffic to me. You need your stats so its the only option.

jpv 08-03-2004 11:42 AM

I can't get a server that is much faster. I already have one of the fastest servers that my host offers.

What makes analog so much better than webalizer? They are both in C. I don't think there is a big enough difference that I won't crash analog also.

Urchin.

It's expensive but it'll handle anything you throw at it. It makes webalizer look like a tail on your access log.

Basic_man 08-03-2004 11:53 AM

Wow, you are so BIG !!!

That stat program is so god-awful... I don't know how you guys can use it.

I'd much prefer Analog. To each his own, I guess.

complete agree - best stats what i seen...

I tried urchin and it crashed on a daily basis but this was on a server that seemed to be having problems at the time.

Let me know if you think urchin can handle this...

server: dual 2.8 processor. 2 GB ram.
daily traffic: 10million+ hits. 500+ GB

all on one server.

If you really want those logs and find no other solution....

Try getting another server from your host and add 2nd network cards to both serves to run an inside network between them.

Then xfer your logs to your "log box" throughout the day and have this box create your logs.

The additional server could also do other jobs like DNS or mail as well.

I was just gonna say the same thing...

if you are pushing that kind of traffic, why would you want to rely on one server? Clustered, load balanced and redundant is what you need...

:2 cents:

NiteRain 08-03-2004 12:32 PM

Simple, configure your server to rotate the logs every day and have a script that runs webalizer on the ones generated daily, this way the files are not that big, and it will never take webalizer long to run.

budz 08-03-2004 12:34 PM

I <3 Nettracker stats

jpv 08-03-2004 12:43 PM

niterain, I will run your suggestion past my host. this server is just running my galleries so a simple solution like that might work.
