Following the FLQ?s October 1970 kidnapping of Quebec?s labor and immigration minister, then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act to protect other potential FLQ targets and prevent further acts of terror. The minister was found dead a week later, and his kidnappers were subsequently tried and convicted. The FLQ has not been active for decades.

i am genuinely cuirious as to what kind of fear an attack on canada would cause.

first off, it seems none of you even think you could be a target. being an american ally is enough to be attacked i think.

so naturally, it would cause GREAT FEAR because you people dont care. or at least believe an attack is even possible.

I'd bet Canada will have something happen before the draft goes into effect and I'd bet it would be labeled as a 'terrorist' attack.


The result of which will be a stronger bond between Canada and the US, and a stronger awareness among americans that "Canada is not safe from terrorisim either!" - which will discourage many people from moving there.

Canada will then strongly enforce their new anti-draft-dodger agreements with the US, since we'll all be uber allies in the war against terrorism.

As for what Canada would do if attacked...well...not many people hate us...but if we were attacked...if I remember correctly...a few people have old military uniforms around here...I heard a rumor we have a rowboat hanging around....and there are a couple pilots that work the forest fires that we could get.

Other than that I don't know how Canada would protect itself...unless of course we took our troups out of:

I saw a show on TLC once awhile ago about Candas Navy... they have some pretty badass technology.

At the time, I think it was said that it (this ship I'm thinking of) was superior to anything out there in its class.

Our military always appears low-key because we just aren't in the news as much. I know our airforce pilots rock...there is an International competition every year and we win it a great deal of the time. Granted our force is not as large as some other countries...and we do more U.N. peacekeeping duties than anything else...but we do ok. We are not a super-power...never tried to be.

As an american living on the mexican border and living down here in the valley where its all border hoppers, i assure you IT IS A GIFT.

Maybe we have unpatrolled borders with them because we want to encourage them to visit more often to spend their Candian dollars, and so we can go and fish in their nice world class lakes without too much hastle at the border :)
