Hurricane Baby!!

VaBeach is right in "Hurricane Alley"... We got a Category 2 right off the coast. Should be fun today. Last hurricane we had I lost all the windows in my SUV. Now all these fucking nitwits around here are mobbing the stores buying up canned goods and bottled water like a nuke is in route. Yep...gonna be a lovely day fo sho...

TurboAngel 08-03-2004 05:29 AM

Exactly! These people around here freak out every goddamn time this shit happens. Hurricanes don't bother me. I lived in Hatteras through 2 hurricanes and the worst Nor'easter in 90 years where we had 8 feet of water in Rodanthe. Shit during hurricane Emily we stayed in a cottage on the damn beach and had waves breaking under the house lol. You could feel the house sway on the pilings it was sitting on. After a couple cases of beer and some good kine buds...you hardly even notice the sway anymore though.:glugglug

Yeah dude. A little wind and rain is all it's gonna do. Gusts up over 100 but once it hits Buxton in Hatteras that will kill off. I would expect maybe 40 mile an hour winds here with gusts up to like 70 or something. Nothing major. By the time it gets up as far north as Richmond it will have headed offshore.

Firehorse 08-03-2004 06:20 AM

Sounds like you are going to enjoy yourself hurricane or not. I hope it all goes well! :thumbsup

mardigras 08-03-2004 06:54 AM

I hate after a direct hurricane hit everything comes to a complete stop for a couple weeks. No power, no phone, no cable if you DO have power, nothing that isn't essential is open and those few stores that are open don't have anything because people act like they are stocking up for WWIII:(

Peaches 08-03-2004 06:58 AM

I vacation in the Outer Banks. They lose several houses every time there's a big storm and many are currently in the water during high tide :(

When I moved from the city, I was deciding between moving to the mountains or the beach. After seeing the erosion even a middle sized storm does, the mountains looked a lot safer and I vacation at the beach :)

Hope everyone in that area is safe!!!

Rob 08-03-2004 07:00 AM

Nick - I see we share the same enthusiasm for hurricaines! :thumbsup

I'll make special trips to get right into the meat of a storm with my surfboard in tow! Those things are incredible. I was in Florida City (just south of Homestead) when Andrew hit and that was one of the most awesome displays of natural power that I've ever witnessed.

It never seems to go much farther than NC.. NC/SC seem to get blasted the most. I have been through 1 bad hurricane in PA as a small child.. I think it was Hurricane agnes in 69 or 70...i remember holding on to this pole outside our door and winds lifted my body off the ground..till my dad rescued me..phew.

I have been through a couple right before I left Florida..I lived on Cocoa beach and they really dont get hit that much or that hard...probably why Kennedy space center is located there.

Stay safe Nick and enjoy the weather... if you can get some vid of any tornados or huge swells..that would be most awesome:thumbsup

Shooter 08-03-2004 07:14 AM

Better go stock up on hurricane chow :1orglaugh

Seriously though, good luck...hurricanes are one of the few things I don't miss about NC

We live over the one single oldest block of electrical wiring on the entire planet apparently. After Isabelle hit, lots of VA lost power. Our ENTIRE neighborhoods power came back after about 4 days except for one block. Guess who lives on that block? lol...we called the power company and were like, "Hey...uh...my neighbors got power 3 houses away...what's the deal." They said that we were on some archaic wiring system and since they tried to get it back up and couldn't they had to keep with the schedule for fixes and we would get fixed once they had gone through the entire list for VA. Long story short, we were out of power for 6 weeks while my neighbors were out in the streets partying, boomboxes on, AC blowing out the front door into the street. We finally said fuck it for the last week and just went to a hotel. Candles suck ass...I hope I never have to use another one evar!

I don't know how you can find loosing the windows of your SUV funny ... I would cry lol

cherrylula 08-03-2004 10:04 AM

I prefer earthquakes myself. They are usually only a couple minutes and if something breaks you fix or replace it. Much easier than hurricanes. :)
