Vonage Users

Is your shit down?

<y phone is down wtf?

kristin 08-02-2004 09:00 AM

Yeah, ours seems to not be working right. Everytime you dial you eventually get a weird busy signal type noise.

Fred Quimby 08-02-2004 09:00 AM

I hear with vonage,,you can keep your home number.

Is that true?

I've had the same # for 12 years. That's the only thing keeping me from signing up:glugglug

Vic Lagina 08-02-2004 09:12 AM

Yep. Trouble down here too. And their customer service number is busy, so I am guessing that they are having some issues.

Glad I am not the only one.

AndrewKanuck 08-02-2004 09:15 AM

Ahhh, the wonders of VoIP

Buddy 08-02-2004 09:16 AM

Down for me too. 3 problems this month.
I wonder if it is growing pains.

ztik 08-02-2004 09:19 AM

How do you guys like the service(when it is working)?

this is the 15th time this year that there has been a problem with this service. i have messages waiting and i cannot check them.

their answer: we are aware of this problem and are working hard to rectify this quickly. sorry for the trouble it has caused you but we are working on it.

my reply: what about the previous 14 times and where the hell is my credit for your the continual down time?

their answer: uhhhh ummmm uhhhh i would have to speak with a supervisor about that.

my reply: this is the 15th time i have heard this bullshit. you have no problem charging me every month now do you? (then i hung up).

I'm happy with it 99% of the time. The important thing isn't just the vonage service, but your broadband connection.
I never knew how unreliable my cbale modem was until I was relying on it 24/7 for my phone service.

Sharky 08-02-2004 09:28 AM

It's funny you post this now. I was just looking into vonage to reduce my phone costs this morning.

perhaps I will wait

Juicy D. Links 08-02-2004 09:31 AM

cool then its not only me

Someone probably jizzzzzed on the routers

TheEnforcer 08-02-2004 09:40 AM

I have Packet 8 and rarely have problems. Most recent thing was my sister tried calling a bunch of times and couldn't get any type of signal at all and I got like 8 calls about 10-15 apart that she had tried to make earlier!!:1orglaugh All in all though not too many problems and I am quite happy with it.

wvuatl 08-02-2004 09:42 AM

YUP

Looks like a DDos attack or something??

Cassie 08-02-2004 09:42 AM

besides today it has been pretty good.

I have had it for like 8 months or so now. No probs other than today

MandyBlake 08-02-2004 10:03 AM

Vonage is awesome!
Every company has their downtime.
I would never go back to a regular phone.

Sharky 08-02-2004 10:23 AM

I just looked into packet 8. it seems they have a virtual PBX service which is pretty nice.

does vonage offer soemthing similar? I didn't see it on their website

Vic Lagina 08-02-2004 10:28 AM

Mine seems to be working now. I can call out and receive incoming calls.

Anyone else?

yup i am back up and running also :)

SinisterStudios 08-02-2004 10:34 AM

Were up and running in with no issues. Vonages service has been perfect for us for almost 2 years now, i highly recommend them and have personally had 21 people signup for the service. I use it for my home phone and both of my business phones, i cant be beat. Now they have the soft client which is great all you need is your computer and a headset and you can receive calls on both you box and your computer.

chupacabra 08-02-2004 10:34 AM

even w/ their occasionaly outages, vonage is just indispensible to me due to the ability to haul the router (or softphone on laptop) to anywhere in the world that has broadband service... i plug my router w/ phone into broadband connections all over asia and send/receive calls for free over the web, instead of paying a $-a-minute for traditional landline connections..

PhillipB 08-02-2004 10:51 AM

Vonage is a great service but you all are forgetting one thing. It's a phone for Christ's sake and it needs to be reliable.

Since when does a phone crash? When the power in your house goes out, guess what still works: your phone.

If you do a lot of long-distance, Vonage can't be beat. But you give up pretty much 100% uptime. Imagine an important customer calls and can't get though because your ISP, your cable modem, your router, your VOIP box, or your VOIP provider is down! Not worth the $5 or $10 you save by sticking with traditional phone service.

Don't get me wrong...I dislike SBC, GTE, etc.. more than the next guy. And I've had Vonage and think it rocks. But I had to pay for the VOIP box when I through it against a wall because their service was down the 3rd time in a few months.

Also for the record, I barely use my land line. I just need my celly and business is good.

That's a great use for it. Especially for calling out from hotels where it's like $100/minute.. ;-)
