No more automatic rebills -- What's your game plan?

What if VISA/MC issues a new rule that requires processors to send an email to a member before they can be rebilled, what will you do?

(Assuming the new rule requires an unsubscription link in the email rebill notifications)

The question assumes that you will COMPLY. But will it change your business model?

End of PPS?

Of course it would force changes in business models. The smart people are already looking ahead at alternative billing methods.

From what I heard at the Amsterdam show, Europe is doing a similar thing through cell phones and it seems to be working OK for them. Some of the progams are billing daily by sending an SMS message to the member. If they accept then they are billed...If not then their memberships are cancelled.

Not the best solution as I see it but still a good option for them.

123Bill & DuoCash may turn out to be valuable options for that as well.

I reckon you start to charge $80 for access for 6 months.Give the webmaster 50%.
No more trials. The surfer needs porn as much as we need his money.if he can't get it any cheaper then he'll soon be prepared to pay $80 for it.
Of course upsells are extra and the sponsor keeps all those.

Very informative response, Aaron. I agree, the more options there are now, the easier it will get when this 'scenario' becomes reality.

That's the linchpin of your argument. Unfortunately, one would have to be braindead to not realize that there's TONS of free porn out there. Not just pictures, but movies and full files.:2 cents:

Already do that, and it works fine, we of course do not pay per signup, it just can't work with this module, only revshare. But we are only at 0.5% chargebacks and make decent money. :glugglug

when you think this will happend?!

Major (Tom) 08-02-2004 05:12 AM

there has been talk about this for years now. It may happen, it may not. If it does it will suck, but we will adapt.

PPS doesnt only bank on rebills or they would be gone since so many of these PPS programs have the worst sites ive ever seen (not talking design because that doesnt matter im talking content)

Some stuff many PPS programs need to do to contiue paying out

Shaving
Heavy Spam to members
Popups
Cross sells pre checked and all shady things in the book
And figure out the rest

Sure there is legit PPS programs but not many.

What about ACH? The system was designed for high volume, low denomination recurring transactions.

Or do we have to raise our rate to 35% to get mentioned?

Personally, I see the micro-payment of content as a more viable alternative.

I don't understand it.

Why all the drama bout this.

If your site is good why shouldn't members stay?

If your site is shite then you're in the wrong business.

So IMO all this will do is improve on quality.

Or am I missing something here?
