pxxx 07-31-2004 03:55 PM

That is a really bad trade, but you never know what those two players can turn into. Maybe playing in a different environment will make them better.:2 cents:

cabrera is 30.. had one decent year last year..thats it.. You dont trade an All star batting .323 for a guy you hope will get better.. Thats a huge gamble.. Sox fans thought they would get pitcher Clement in the deal.. they didnt .. ouch!

Mack 07-31-2004 04:34 PM

ahhhhahahahahahhhahahahahahahaha!!

If I were not a Yankees fan since birth I might find this tragic...............but in reality it is the comedy that is the bosox.

B40 07-31-2004 04:34 PM

Do they stand a chance against the Yankees anyways? Esp. now that they have Loaiza

That would be a ............NO

SykkBoy 07-31-2004 06:35 PM

Cabrera is a better defensive shortstop and Nomar is headed elsewhere after this season anyways, why not try to at least get something for him?

Their defense improves greatly with this trade. I also have a feeling they aren't done dealing yet...

Red Sox could have had so much MORE for Nomar,, like a good pitcher! Or they could have just kept him and try to go all the way this year... Adding two .245 batters with no power to your line up and taking off a .323 batter wont help.. As for defense..there's plenty of SS as good defensively as cabrerra with numbers approching .275 , 15HR...

btw.. today was the trade deadline..

Did they also save money on this deal?

garfish 07-31-2004 07:17 PM

Today was only the deadline for non waiver trades. Every team now will probably try and send 20-30 people through waivers, the ones that get through can be traded.

Doctor Dre 07-31-2004 07:36 PM

Go Yankees go !!! they will win this year (hrmm I said that with the Lakers too ... lol)

Gator 07-31-2004 07:47 PM

How much has Nomar played the last few years? He's complaining about his achilles again so good luck with him. BTW, the Red Sox offered him 60 million in the offseason he turned down, so what do you expect?

Agree...Nomar's good, but too much of a risk injury-wise

Played most of 2002 and 2003, but only played 21 games in 2000....he's at 38 games this season and it's about 2 weeks past the all star break.

IMPORTANT RELEVANT INFO IN THIS POST...

The redsox just got something for nothing...the trade deadline was today, and the sox just added TWO gold gloves to their infield...and an EXTREMELY FAST outfielder who adds a NECCESARY dimension to the sox lineup....STOLEN BASES...

Sox now have a SOLID first baseman an excellent everyday shortstop, and a rotateable/pinchrunnable outfielder...Redsox can now MANUFATURE runs in their late game, and reduce their errors SIGNIFICANTLY.

Cabrera was added for defense only. The guy with the 12 letter last name has "decent" offense, but again, hes also only their for his glove. When pokey is back...3 gold gloves will line boston's infield runs scored will drop significantly, and errors will all but dissapear.

Nomar was walking away after this season anyway...this trade may not have been the "Best" one possible, but if you look at when it took place, right before the deadline...youd realize it was better than keeping him around...

bottom line...Bosox now have DEFENSE.
NOMAR was walking away after this season. We got something for nothing...

His bat may be missed, but his errors wont be. Improved Defense more than makes up for it.

Illicit 07-31-2004 10:07 PM

Nomar only bats .245 away from fenway. When he turned down a 4 yr 60 Million dollar contract he fucked up. I hate to see him go but fuck him. Ill take the defense, and im willing to bet those bats are alot better in fenway.
