How far back have you traced your family tree?

http://www.piratesinfo.com/biography...?article_id=37

My relative several generations back.

stocktrader23 07-31-2004 12:22 AM

"Barataria lies on the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles south of New Orleans. It was home to buccaneers and fishermen, but Jean Laffite organized them into a company of privateers and smugglers. He built a house, cottages, warehouses, barracoons (stockades that held slaves awaiting auction), a cafe, gambling den, and brothel."

Gambling and sex run in the family. Cheers Jean

i love that quote form the simpsons- "he can trace his family history all the way back to when the anglos first met the saxons"

BRISK 07-31-2004 12:38 AM

I'm fairly sure that my ancestors were amoebas that were swimming around in some warm pond water somewhere.

zanycash Pete 07-31-2004 12:39 AM

You have cause for concern only if your family tree is a circle

Yeah! Adam and Eve. Either that's bullshit or we're all inbreds. Which is it?

TheJimmy 07-31-2004 01:10 AM

my father told me the oldest trace back has been to being related to an illegitimate son of William the Conqueror...

apparently he liked to fight and fuck around...

Varius 07-31-2004 01:30 AM

Hrm I downloaded this tool from onegreatfamily.com and after some playing around in it ended up all the way back to

Sir Robert de Hibburne of Newton
B: 1232

Along the way though there is:

James Hepburn
B: 1536
Spynie castle, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland

D: 14 april 1578
Gragsholm castle, Denmark in exile

In exile sounds pretty cool....googling for that dude I find its because he had some affair and then married a chick named Mary Queen of Scots.

I hope she was hot :winkwink:

Now this prob isnt really my family tree, these things are never accurate for non-americans...but interesting anyhow

You read GFY and you need to ask? :1orglaugh

One of my great-grandfathers was mormon and had 3 wives. The mormons also traced that branch of the family back to the 1400's in northern Italy and England.

Firehorse 07-31-2004 06:26 AM

I have traced my tree back 5 or 6 generations from memory. I have a few famous relatives. But that's less important than my current family! :thumbsup

bjjb 07-31-2004 06:37 AM

Farthest we've been able to go with the same spelling f the last name is 1667. Virginia. But there are several variations on my last name that can be traced to the 13th and 14th century England and Scotland

Living For Today 07-31-2004 06:38 AM

My great great great great uncle was Doctor David Livingstone!

XxXotic 07-31-2004 08:07 AM

ive traced them back as far as "ive met you so i know yer family" i don't really care about my family tree since i can't stand 90% of my whacked ass family anyway.

xclusive 07-31-2004 08:12 AM

I once traced it back to where my family was the rulers of a section of ireland in the 1400 or so...

KRL 07-31-2004 08:16 AM

I went back about 500 years. Its very hard to go past that because official birth records for anyone besides royalty just aren't out there to find and probably never even existed to begin with.

gothweb 07-31-2004 08:18 AM

My ex, "Vail" is quite the amateur genealogist. My family tree goes back to ancient Rome, viking Norway, and a few other interesting places. The main reason is that for centuries, nobles have ben keeping track of their family trees. Make it back to any of them (which almost anyone can do) and you suddenly have your family tree explode back to dozens of royals and their ancestors.

Mutt 07-31-2004 08:28 AM

hey look it's gothweb. wondered what happened to you.

Marcus Aurelius 07-31-2004 08:32 AM

150 or so years is where mine drops off. I think we had alot of outlaws and criminals before that period that didnt want to be known.

TDF 07-31-2004 09:12 AM

Tala 07-31-2004 09:18 AM

<-- direct descendant of the 3rd Baron de la Warre, Sir Thomas West for whom the state, river, and American Indian tribe "Delaware" was named.

naughty_weena 07-31-2004 09:21 AM

i haven't really trace my family tree that far. all i know is that i have spanish and chinese ancestors...:)

Corona 07-31-2004 09:25 AM

Only back to 1775 so far.

Only famous or infamous relative is Johnny Cash.

Goatse 07-31-2004 09:57 AM

I got as far back as the 1600's.

A bunch of European intellectuals, aristocrats and businessmen on one side.

A pile of dung on the other side: alcoholics, murderers, a schizophrenic Native Indian, and basically the type of people who shouldn't be allowed to procreate.
