Laser Eye Surgery
Anyone ever had it? I'm thinking seriously to get it....I've heard they have a great place out here in Costa Rica, seems a little on the costly side though at $800 USD per eye + $200 for the exam.
Then again, you don't want to go cheap when it comes to your vision :winkwink: Just wondering if anyone here has had or thought about having it done ?? |
I want to have it done.. I need it:(
|
My vision is -3.25 and -3.50, but I'm always annoyed by contacts (and losing them in the ocean or rough sex), and hate glasses.
I think its finally time =) |
I got mine done in Portland a few weeks ago.
$599 per eye. I was 20/200 Now I'm 20/20 It's really a modern miracle of science. I can't understand why more people aren't doing this. Glasses/contacts are so last century. :2 cents: |

I figure more people don't do it a) for the cost or b) they are afraid of it fucking up and being blinded |
Had mine done the beginning of April..

Took a few days to stop hurting ... mostly from the clamps they use to keep your eyes open than the actual lasik - they scratched me a bit - others say it's pretty painless. The cost was $1200 for both eyes, total. ... there were no other fees charged at all for the visits or checkups ... and I did not opt for an optional upsell to plug your tear ducts - I just used a lot of artifical tears to keep lubricated, they're cheap and in every grocery store ... How much does a good pair of glasses cost? and how often do you have to replace them when they're lost or break? + visits to the optomitrist... Over several years, it's cheaper to just get Lasik. They even had a plan to get the surgery then make monthly payments over a year. I'm pretty sure all the scary shit they make you sign is just for legal purposes - it's done by a machine so they can't really fuck up - and I've never heard of a single case of anyone having a bad experience. |
I want to get it done too, but what about the long term effects.. Do any of the doctors mention that?
I want to see, but I don't want my eyes bleeding out when I'm 50 |
Hrm I just checked out the info on the Costa Rican place...they do LASIK, but I noticed something a little odd.
Aside from 2 types of eye exams, they say you MUST perform a blood test to test for HIV first. I guess they don't perform it if your hIV positive for health reasons ? Sounds bit weird though.... I dont think your immune system relates much to your eyes.. |
Hopefully you don't go blind in 10 years... :glugglug

PK, i was following your progress on your eye surgery when you were going through it. I was curious on what the difference was between this new Wavefront Customvue laser as opposed to the laser that most places seem to use. Aside from minimizing halos, is there any other benefit with that newer laser? |

and * More predictable outcomes o 98% 20/20 or better vision o 70% 20/16 or better vision o 27% 20/12.5 or better vision * Better night vision o Four times as many people are very happy with night vision * Improved vision after laser eye surgery o 70% see as well or better than with eyeglasses o 58% gained up to a line of vision o 8% gained more than one line of vision * Better safety profile o No loss of vision in FDA trials |
I definately want to get it done. I'm sick of my glasses
|
Funny about this post is I just went to eye doctor today. Seems Lasik seems to be doing well for everyone. $3500 for San Jose area though. Might have to make a trip to Portland. Wonder why its so expensive here?
OH YEAH EVERYONE IS ABOVE $100,000 a year here:thumbsup |
Affordable and relatively safe!:thumbsup

The reason I haven't done it yet is that I am worried that if my eyes were corrected to 20/20 I wouldn't be able to see close up as well.
Seeing as most of my life is doing fine work on my computer I am worried I would then need reading glasses to work. Has this happened to anyone? |
For me it isnt the money, but that whole halo & night vision thing, and also, they say you may still need corrective lenses.
I'd get it if I'm going to be 20/20.... whats the point if you still have to wear glasses, albeit thinner ones???? |
i have heard that it only suits some. certain people cannot have their vision corrected by this.
