?? about warning pages
Hey all, newbie here.
I've seen a lot of warning pages follow the format "blah blah blah... by clicking here I certify I am of legal age to view adult material.. blah blah" This raises a couple questions. a) Since minors cannot legally enter into contracts, does this have *any* sort of legal standing? b) Wouldn't this potentially give a prosecution an edge, i.e. "Clearly you knew minors would access your site or else you wouldn't have put up a warning page." Just curious if warning pages are anything more than a token effort, like webmaster Joe made made one back in '96 and everyone followed suit, or if any legal-types have actually recommended their use. Nice board by the way. Been following most of the biggies for months now - this one's my favorite. Tucks |
Like it or lump it. It's a Federal Law that says we have warning pages on anything considered Adult in nature. Whether it's porn or just disgusting pictures of other things, or even adult information in the text form.

BTW, we knew 'Joe', nice guy too. He grew up and started AmateurPages. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif

How do insanely popular sites like rotten.com and stileproject.com get away with no warning pages? Is it something to do with what country you host your pages in? I know stileproject is out of Toronto, Canada. Or have these sites just not been targeted yet?

Could be two things, either Canada doesn't have that law or the webmaster is ignoring or doesn't know about it. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif We have enough fun trying to follow US laws. Or their current interpretations.
