Arousal Design 07-29-2004 11:54 AM

HAHAHA. I dunno about everoyne else, but I'm reading the thread as a joke.

But on a serious note, you can get rich by working for other people, just not many jobs allow it. (atheletes are very rich, and work for other people).

Best way to get rich in america is to make a product and sell it.

Mike AI 07-29-2004 11:54 AM

I guess all the millionaires that Microsoft created don't count?

I know some employees in this industry who have become very wealthy, and according to Kerry are rich and in uppoer 1%.

CDSmith 07-29-2004 11:59 AM

Maybe one in five or ten thousand people will become truly wealthy working for someone else. For the rest, the best option is the do-it-yourself plan.

Own business = wealth is the road that brings success for most people far more often than hoping you're "the one" that gets snapped up for a high-paying position in someone else's company.

You can get rich, just not as rich as the guy you're working for.

Rankings 07-29-2004 07:50 PM

It happens...just few and far between.

Dagwolf 07-29-2004 07:52 PM

It's very hard to get rich working for someone else... but working for someone else is a good way to make contacts, acquire skills, and save start-up capital. :2 cents:

JSA Matt 07-29-2004 07:55 PM

The complete and utter bullshit you continuously spew never ceases to amaze me. Way to raise the bar :glugglug

You can get rich working for someone else.. its just going to take a few decades for the interest on your investments to compound and make you a milllionaire :)

Marcus Aurelius 07-29-2004 08:06 PM

if you cant get rich working for someone else, then half the people here should just give up now, because most of them are trying to do it promoting, IE, working for others.

sternyduke 07-29-2004 08:06 PM

the janitor working at google is going to be rich once he is able to cash in on his stock options...

Exactly. I know people who have gotten rich working for others in this industry. Usually they have a commission structure built into there salary and pull it off that way.

I'm sure there's lots of examples where commission can put you over the top in many industries.

DamageX 07-29-2004 08:11 PM

Actually, you can. It all depends on how much you charge and how good a job you do at convincing them to pay you. :)

gornyhuy 07-29-2004 08:14 PM

Tell that to the THOUSANDS OF UNTALENTED MULTI MILLIONAIRES that were employees of AOL when they were sucking wind and got paid in excessive stock options.

XxXotic 07-29-2004 08:14 PM

tell that to the millionaires who work for bill gates

Okay - more like hundreds of them, but still. I personally know 7 of them and have met dozens of others....
They didn't start, build, or even really contribute to the company other than being a schmoe at the right place at the right time.

tony286 07-29-2004 08:34 PM

the right way to say it is you can get rich working for someone else but not wealthy . For the most part the Microsofts and the apples are rare not common place. also that doesnt come free Steve Ballmer beg ,borrowed and stole to get up enough money to buy lots of options. in this industry its mostly single owners or two owners and in that situation it tends to be mine mine mine . lol

shermo 07-29-2004 08:36 PM

Sure you can. Who says you can't have your own business to manitain during your out of work hours? :Graucho

aSStig 07-29-2004 09:05 PM

i dont agree . . . . . . . .

how come my boss became rich . . . .

because he's working for someone.. . . . . .

RedShoe 07-29-2004 09:08 PM

Maybe in other industries you can get rich working for someone else, but not in porn. Trust me.

fiftyfingers 07-29-2004 09:12 PM

You can get rich by working for others, just not as rich as the one or five that started it all. You can be wealthy and happy and sleep better at night because you may have a secure job that you can depend on.

Shoehorn! 07-29-2004 09:12 PM

I disagree. If you were a janitor for Microsoft in the 80s and took stock options, you'd be a millionaire now. A fucking JANITOR. I'd say being a millionaire is rich. Discuss that one.

EZRhino 07-29-2004 09:16 PM

I think very few people that most would consider well off. Made all their money by working for someone. They made money by having their money work for them. Thats the best way to go.

Rochard 07-29-2004 09:25 PM

I'm living a better life by sealing office supplies.

(Got to love Dilbert!)

NoHassleSteve 07-29-2004 09:29 PM

One way to get rich is to acknowledge that the first step is to make someone else rich first.

i.e. sell your idea to him... or sign a lopsided marketing agreement... or bust your ass for options, etc.

then.. use what money YOU got from step one to then be your own man the second time around.

This requires patience and the confidence that you will be able to strike gold twice.

Just remind yourself that 10% of a million is better than 100% of nothing.

SleazyDream 07-29-2004 10:05 PM

everyone works for someone else in one mannor or another

KRL 07-29-2004 10:46 PM

You can make a lot of money working for someone else as long as you get some stock or options in the company or you are in top level management, CEO, Exec VP, etc. The downside is you're on someone else's leash instead of your own.

BradM 07-29-2004 10:47 PM

Agreed. I have no patience to participate in another one of these threads though.
