Foreign TLD questions (.de .nl .fr ...)
Ok
The european market is huge and I want more of that piece of the cake. So I want to buy local top level domains. Now my problem: .fr) I was told that you need to own a copyright on the name you are going to register. JB from Statsremote told me you can not buy statsremote.fr for example unless you own a CR on the name "statsremote". Someone from france please tell me something about that. How can www.sex.fr for example exist if thats correct?? .de) I was told that they verify each and every domain thats been bought, means they have you verify all whois information and stuff... thinking about german porn laws this would be a bitch. Does anyone know anything about that? How about other european TLDs? .nl / .co.uk / ... What should I know? Thanks a lot |
I'd suggest google..
As far as I know there are no limitations on .co.uk though. |
hmmm I don't know if there are any important rules regarding .nl actually. Not any I know of anyway.

Trax... to get a .fr domain name you either need to have a French company with that name or a trademark on that name. In the case of sex.fr they have a trademark on 'sex.fr'.
With .de domains it's different. Almost all names can be registered and you can register as many domains as you want to but you need to have a presence in Germany. The legal aspect is a bit more difficult, i.e. each domain needs an 'Impressum' with all contact information including the name(s) of the managing director(s) and a lot of other stuff. Also, you need to name a 'Jugendschutzbeauftragter'... you can use a lawyer for that if you don't want to be it yourself. And, of course, you have to abide by the German 'porn laws' which is a pain in the ass. For example, go to a German adult webmaster board. If they want to link to GFY they have to put the link behind an AVS. BTW everybody can register .co.uk, .ch, .li, .at domains. I don't know anything about .nl. |
perfect info
thanks So I assume when regging a .de domain for example a US whois won't work? |

Hello Trax,
I was reading your Post and had some comments. You stated you want a piece of the European market... That's a great thing, however there are a few things to consider when entering into the European Market place... #1. Billing Barriers #2. Language barriers #3. See numbers 1 & 2 In places, such as Germany, where you were thinking of purchasing a .de domain, only about 20-30% of the population have Credit Cards. Even those with CC's, generally will not purchase Porn with it. It's just a different culture. A majority of the people use the Direct Debit system, which I see tons of payments with on SEXMoney.com's sites. It is not such an easy payment solution to establish however. And with stricter dialer policies being enforced globally, it is much harder to make serious bank. In addition, there is no recurring revenue generated from the dialer, like other payment solutions. So as far as billing, that is something you should consider as a priority... Also as I stated above... Language barriers do present a large problem. Just having a site translated by someone who speaks it, is not the solution. As you need local linguists, and again you have the issue of billing. I would like to chat with you and see how I might be able to assist you, as SEXMoney.com has over 250 paysites in 25 languages, covering 40+ niches. In addition, we have the payment solutions in place! We pay out in FULL on ALL Exits and ALL Payment methods. I can be reached via Phone, ICQ or E-mail! I look forward to chatting with you... Warm regards, --=Chipmunk=-- :winkwink: |
