Now I Know What Makes Lance Armstrong Great
Lance's heart is 30% larger than a typical person. His resting heart-rate is 32. He burns up to 10,000 calories a day during races, but manages to maintain his body weight within 3kg ALL YEAR. His body fat, in race trim, is 4-5% . His lungs process over 50% more oxygen than the average person: "Amstrong?s lungs can perform at twice the capacity of the average healthy man. Technically speaking, Armstrong's lungs use 85 milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight during exercise, compared with 40 for other men." (MSNBC)

Yup, hes superman

If you want to know "what makes him great", you shouldn't use a comparison to "a typical person". Obviously, the difference between a normal person and a pro cyclist will be huge, regardless of whether it's the winner of the Tour de France or the guy who comes in dead last.
Personally, though, I think the main reasons for Armstrong's success are willpower, determination, discipline and perseverance. A body by itself simply can't win a Tour. |
he's a mutant!

Not sure about the heart size part, but the rest goes with most of the racers. They all have low heart rates, anyone would that biked all the time.
While they were racing every once in awhile it would say their heart rates...they were usually around 90-95 beats a minute, that's insane. I think about jumping on a bike and mine jumps up that high. |
I farted a few minutes ago and my heart rate went up to 144.

He's dating Sheryl Crowe. That's nice motivation too.
