How many of you have office space outside of your home?

do you think it's a good thing to get?
I have a good friend in another industry who is looking for office space and it would be cheaper if I go in with him.

Do you think you're more productive when you work in an actual office rather than from home?
no employees or anything, just me having space outside of my house.

Sosa 07-28-2004 04:49 PM

I work mostly from home, but also have a part time job at a computer store. I usually do some of my online work at the computer store and get more done in a shorter amount of time there then when I work at home.

freeadultcontent 07-28-2004 04:49 PM

Can you and your friend share a space and still work?

Volantt 07-28-2004 05:07 PM

Waste of money if it is not needed... just my :2 cents:

Tuzz 07-28-2004 05:13 PM

Get the office if you can afford it...You will always be more productive.

There are too many distractions at home

working in your own office even if its small gives you a little more extra motivation to earn even more than you do now, since you should pay your office off. but the main idea is the psychology -- you go to office to work only and you are concentrated on your maximum :2 cents:

i just got an office and it helps out alot. Try to find an office where there are a bunch of other self employeed people in the surrounding offices, it's a fun environment to work in since everyone is basically in the same boat as you.

If you are shooting content then I would suggest it. :2 cents:

I have office space 3000km (about 1600 miles) away from my home. I'm on it right now.

wyldblyss 07-29-2004 07:59 AM

I have done it both ways and I believe you get more accomplished in a shorter period of time at an office. You also tend to be more organized. I would suggest it if you could afford it.

It totally depends on your personality and what your job entails...

We have corporate office space that thankfully is in a different state... nice to have face to face meetings once in a while, but I can't work with other people around stopping in to chat or talking in the hall.

Also, I work with partners and affiliates all over the world so I need to be available at odd hours... going in to an office for 8-10 hours just isn't practical for me.

Plus, when I'm designing new sites and promo items, sometimes I need to be able to step away from the screen and go work out, sit by the pool, etc. to get a fresh persective... being forced to sit at an office desk tends to limit my creativity.

ON the OTHER hand, if you're the type of person who gets more creative by bouncing ideas off of live people and you deal with a localized clientele... go for it!

Cheers!

JustSexxx, some other guy and me had a small office few years ago. I prefer to work at home wich I am doing for a few years now.

One positive thing about having an office outside the house is people actually think you have a normal job. Now some just think I am fooling around a bit

tony286 07-29-2004 08:35 AM

We will have our office by the end of august. I can see where you can be much more productive. When you are working from home there is this feeling I am always working, so if I fuck off its ok because I am always here . Like in the new office I will have no internet connection my wife will but not me. My duties dont need a internet connection .I know my productivity will go thru the roof but my post count will be alot lower .

B40 07-29-2004 08:36 AM

I have my own office...in my parents basement :Graucho

CS-Jay 07-29-2004 08:38 AM

For me the office is for work and the home is for play. I really can't get shit done at home. Way too many toys and shit to do.

And today we are moving to a bigger office, so I highly recommend working in a office.

Marcus Aurelius 07-29-2004 08:40 AM

I dont. but im working on it. seems like the way to go for better productivity.

We have our office in our home, it takes up about half our house. It's a big advantage to us having a small child and other businesses we run from home. :)

Lucy 07-29-2004 01:30 PM

I have an office out of my house and yes that's more motivating and will do more work:thumbsup

Babagirls 07-29-2004 01:32 PM

nope, in home office here :thumbsup

loverboy 07-29-2004 01:36 PM

i work more productively in an office setup.
though it also pays when you have an alternative in your home, you'll never know when opportunity knocks

WiredGuy 07-29-2004 01:38 PM

I have an office outside the home and all my really productive work is done here. It really depends on your personality though, some people work better in the home, some at an office.

AWESOME MOVIE!

But seriously. I have an office outside of home. I can't get shit done at home because I drink beer and watch shit like "Judge Judy". I'm 110% when at home and 110% when in the office.:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

ace0r 07-29-2004 01:57 PM

herbal logic 07-29-2004 01:59 PM

I have 1 and soon to be a second. One im in now has indoor golf range and putting green:1orglaugh

jonesy 07-29-2004 06:36 PM

ive worked from both and work from my own office now.

psychologically youre better off keeping work from home.

your more productive away from home.
make your office real comfortable too.
if your office is close to home thats even better!
keep work at work.

your home is for comfort, relaxation, family ect not doing biz.

:2 cents:

jade_dragon 07-29-2004 06:40 PM

I like having both, do most work at home but having another adress to send things to as well as not having the house cluttered with paperwork etc is also good.
