The next James Bond, who will it be?

The Hunt is on for the next Top British Secret Service.

Speculation surrounds Brits Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Jude Law and Ewan McGregor, as well as Aussies Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.

----------------------------------
NEW YORK (AP) -- Pierce Brosnan appears to be turning in his license to kill, says Entertainment Weekly.

"That's it," Brosnan told EW.com. "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond."

some criteria for the selection process:

An actor playing James Bond must be a certain type. Here is a capsule description of Ian Fleming's literary Bond: 6'2" tall, 167 pounds, slim build, blue eyes, black hair, scar down right cheek, straight nose, cruel mouth, firm jawline, flecks of grey hair, tanned. For the role, an English accent, humor, athleticism and acting ability are all a plus.

the_wizz 07-28-2004 09:21 AM

I don't think that any of the actors in the list at the top are quite right for the job.

Brosnon fit the roll perfectly. Next to connery he was probably the best fit for the roll ever.

There is a reason why there have only been 5 james bond's and why three of them sucked.

Crowe couldn't pull it off, Grant just looks like an ass, and the rest are too young.

Though, out of the list posted, I think Owen is the best choice....

Maybe if enough people complain, Brosnon will stick around for one more movie.....

definitely a good candidate in works. some excerpt from London Free Press, (May 20 3003)

...McGregor admits he's heard a murmur that he would be a good candidate to play James Bond when Pierce Brosnan retires. "I don't want to hypothesize as to what I might do if the offer came. I'd have to wait until they actually approached me. I went through the same kind of angst and decision-making when George Lucas came to me for Star Wars. I think playing Bond would be an even greater commitment. They turn them out closer together than George does the Star Wars films and it appears to me that Pierce spends as much time promoting those films as he does making them."

Ewan McGregor reminds me of Timothy Dalton ... :(

not very smooth... for a 007....

i'd say maybe Colin Farell ... but he's been in the tabloids too much lately i guess..

SykkBoy 07-28-2004 11:03 AM

Jude Law
this guy can play anything

There's a nasty rumor that Orlando Bloom will be playing a young James Bond in a possible "hey, where did James Bond come from" kind off movie...

...Clive Owen is not the new James Bond, despite rampant reports circulating last week that Pierce Brosnan was passing the torch and the babes after doing just one more film. Brosnan hasn't said he's giving up 007. "It's just continued speculation," an exasperated Owen said with a sigh last weekend. "Me becoming the next Bond has become so common that when I read the rumors I even shake my head." His mates are another story. "I had a phone call last week from an old, dear American friend saying, 'You bastard, Clive! You signed for 2 Bond films and you never told me!' I guess it was supposedly confirmed somewhere that I had," Owen said. And now for the truth? "It's all rumor. I read what you read. Let me just tell you that there has never been an official approach from the Bond people toward me. And since that is the case, there is no point in me wasting time thinking about it." Chicago Sun-Times (October 19 2003)

A bit young. Quite good in Pirates of the Caribbean, but that's not the same thing, is it?

My personal choice is definitely Hugh Jackman, but i doubt if he can make it to the top list. Why isn't Hugh number one? Well, the only reason is that both the 'Van Helsing' as the 'X Men' sequels could present a problem. Apart from that, Hugh's probably the actor I'd accept over any other candidate. He's also a big favorite amongst fans and fits the stereotype, unlike Owen.

How about Collin Farrell or Christian Bale?

tale of the two:

Christian Bale, born 1974, a Welshman. Former child actor. Looks great in designer suits, and certainly has a license to kill (see American Psycho).

Colin Farrell, born 1976, an Irishman. A public-relations disaster. He's quite funny (unintentionally) on Ballykissangel, down on the farm, with the pigs, or leading that horse around.

Aside from the English accent part that just described Tom Berrenger from Platoon.

Especially the scar, straight nose, cruel mouth, firm jawline, flecks of grey hair, tanned :1orglaugh

Too late Pierce Brosnan and George Lazenby weren't English.
