Do you lie about your age for business purposes?

Just out of curiosity......

I've known young people who have lied to their employees, business contacts, etc...that they are upto 10 years older. The reason was, they thought they wouldn't be taken seriously if the other person knew their real age.

How true do you think this si, especially in the internet / adult industries (where people are supposedly 'less traditional') ??

Marcus Aurelius 07-27-2004 11:18 PM

sadly at 28 im beyond the need for it. I would trade that in a heartbeat to be 18 again though. knowing what I know now of course.

zanycash Pete 07-27-2004 11:19 PM

I have started going in the other direction! I deduct 10 years:winkwink:

phogirl69 07-27-2004 11:23 PM

I lie about my age all the time but not for business though...

I'm 26 but I look 18 and since I started going back to school I get hit on everyday by 18 yr olds, i'm not about to tell them I'm 26 so I tell em' I'm 18. Without makeup on I bet I could even pass for under 18. I am very "well-preserved" for my age and not one wrinkle or any signs of aging in sight (thanks to avoiding the sun and sun damage due to webmastering for years)

LIFE IS GOOD!!!

Varius 07-27-2004 11:24 PM

I usually surprise people when I tell them I'm only 22, however so far hasn't affected any business deals.

I've had employees pushing 50, wasn't a problem. Basically, if you can lead by example, that should shut them up :1orglaugh

The bottomline should be the deal itself, if someone won't make it only because of my age, they aren't the kind of person/company I'd want to deal with anyhow :321GFY

Jakke PNG 07-27-2004 11:29 PM

I'm 17

Morgan 07-27-2004 11:29 PM

29 here.

phogirl69 07-27-2004 11:30 PM

O'h yeah, even though I'm 26 I feel as if people in general (not in business) but just in general like clerks at the store or something don't treat me with enough respect because they "assume" that I am young just because I look like I'm 18.

One cop who pulled me over even thought I was underage. People always address me with "Miss" and I kind of don't like it, because they just assume by looking at me that I'm not married.

Well, it's true, I'm not married, but I don't like people who assume things about me just by looking at me. A lot of people who are younger than me are married already, so whatevers... sometimes I just want to be treated with a lot more respect. I guess I am hard to please. When I pay for something I want ultimate respect and service.

Just stuff like people calling me "honey" at the grocery store pisses me off. I'm not some freakin' teenager, show me some respect. Just because I look young doesn't mean that I am. I wanted to be addressed properly, I don't want some clerk calling me "honey" or "sweetie" it's seriously inappropiate. For a kid it's ok, but I'm not for me. Stuff like that really really really irks me.

a lot.

robfantasy 07-27-2004 11:31 PM

ya i dont want someone to associate me with an age, they might think i lack knowledge/experience

{fusion} 07-27-2004 11:32 PM

yeah i always say im younger, dont want people knowing im an old cake :)

Magg 07-27-2004 11:32 PM

phogirl, i think id like it if people thought i was younger than i was ... would give me perfect excuses to shove it in their face.

Sadly, most people think Im 25 when im only 18. :helpme
Its always a nice surprise though once they know more about me, and they find out im 18 then wonder how I have all things I do and wonder how I manage.

Dont even get me started on how old people think i am on the phone. (32)

Yea, but I don't get treated with enough respect. People address me with "honey" or "sweetie" because they think I'm some sweet little 18 year old. And I'm not. I want some damn respect God darn it!!

And I want to get taken seriously. I want people to respect me and be "afraid" of me enough (afraid is not the right word, but I mean something close to it) in order to serve me well, when I need something done or if I'm paying for something. Sometimes people just think I'm some young bimbo and I don't get enough respect. Sometimes I feel like people are talking condescendingly down on me and not showing me enough respect. I don't know how to explain it.

Like one time I was buying a car the guy was looking at my credit report after he ran it and he was like "You've done very good for yourself, your parents would be proud.." and I was like WTF, I haven't lived with my parents for over 6 years, I fully support myself and I barely even talk to them, what the hell are you talking about? People just try to talk you down like they are lecturing you or something...

But I'm a very picky person, so things irritate me easily.

One of these days i am GONNA LOSE IT when I PAY for a service or when I'm a PAYING CUSTOMER and get addressed as "honey" or "sweetie". One day I will just get so irritated and just tell them that they better show me some respect if they want my business.

Magg 07-27-2004 11:42 PM

So I guess you wouldnt want me to be aggressive in bed? :1orglaugh

I understand what you're feeling though, must really suck - I dont think theres much you can do about it, other then going to the extreme and burning yourself up in the sun and smoking 2 packs a day :glugglug

Best thing you can do is, take the blows as they come, and be ready for them, then when someone does treat you like that, return the favor.

Dont take it personally.
