Been fucked by Paypal? A little good news

A friend of mine just got this email, and its official. Paypal is looking to settle a class action lawsuit....

"All Persons who opened a PayPal account during the period from October 1, 1999 through January 31, 2004. Excluded from the class are any judicial officer to whom the lawsuit is assigned; PayPal and any of its affiliates; any current or former employee, officer, or director of PayPal; anyone who resides in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, or United Kingdom; and all persons who timely and validly request exclusion from the class pursuant to this notice."

I have added a page on my server outlining the details. Also theres links for filing claims. Looks like youll get 50 bucks for filing if the settlement goes thru.

Paypal settlement

like I said, I am not thaat cheap, as a matter of the fact I like paypal, why would I backstab them just to claim 50 bucks, get a fucking live.

I like paypal but I do think it's fair for them to pay since they do have a lot of shady business practices and maybe this will make them more like the old paypal. Lets hope.

Just curious as to why you think its backstabbing them. I too like Paypal but seeing and hearing how theyve fucked over thousands of people over the years, why NOT stick it to them. Though they have admitted no guilt per se, settling is akin to saying I didnt do it, but ya got me anyway.

We will be doing the long form and asking for several thousand.

When they decided to stop processing for adult, they just limited your account. The also froze the money there for 6 to 8 months.

When they finally paid out the money, we got 50% paid to us.

It also impacted the sign ups that they were handeling for us..

The bad thing is that when asked why they limited the account, they said, because it had suspicious activity. When asked what the activity was, the only response was that they needed to see a fax of our bank statments to release the money!

:321GFY to Paypal.

Interesting I havent hear this yet. I think I'll check it out.

rowan 07-27-2004 10:06 PM

I wonder how many people here are actually reading the site properly? :)

1. There is a fixed amount of funds so if there are too many short form claims the actual amount paid will be lower than $50.

2. Long form claims will most likely not receive the full amount of their settlement claim, and are also subject to available (fixed) funds.

3. Most importantly, you need a VALID REASON to make any claim. If you have never had your account cancelled, limited, or had any problems following up fraudulent transactions then you do not have any right to a payout.

I fit all of the criteria except for the "reason" ... I can't make a claim since they've never done anything to me.

Big Fish 47 07-27-2004 10:30 PM

a. Short Form Claimants
The Short Claim Form requires you to provide certain identifying information and sign a statement under penalty of perjury, which may be verified using PayPal's records, that you experienced an unauthorized or incorrect electronic transfer or an account limitation or denial of access to your account. If you make a timely, valid claim using the Short Claim Form, you will receive a payment of $50, unless the amount needed to pay all of the Short Form claims exceeds the Short Form Fund. In that case, the Short Form Fund will be divided equally among all Short Form Claimants. If the amount needed to pay all of the Short Form claims is less than the amount of the Short Form Fund, the money left over will be added to the Long Form Fund.

b. Long Form Claimants
The Long Claim Form requires you to provide certain identifying information; give the details of the account restriction(s) and/or unauthorized electronic fund transfer(s) you experienced; state the amount of your claim, and sign a statement, under penalty of perjury, which may be subject to verification by PayPal's records, that you actually suffered the claimed damages. You should also provide any documentation you have that will support your claim, as explained in more detail on the Long Form.

Same here, I feel left out... :-/

The recording industry of america had a similar class action settlement for price gouging. if you bought cd's in the 90's from your visa card you can get like $100 in new cd's..

Paypal will crumble in a few years because they got cocky.
