Any fellow photography enthusiasts?

Just wondering, how many of you use strobes? How about continuous lighting with a softbox? I currently have 2 Photoflex starlite kits, continuous softbox light and haven't been totally satisfied with the color temperature and light spread, I am seriously considering going to a strobe setup rather than upsizing boxes for my current setup (not cheap either).

Any comparisons between the 2 setups, I'd like to hear them. Any strobe setup recommendations, under $1,000 USD? Thanks :)

I use two starlites as well. Occasionally I use some strobes but not very often.

Before you go and blow a lot of money on strobes...Hit up ebay and look for some cheap ones that you can play with then decide if strobes are the right move for your needs.

If you are shooting higher end studio stuff then IMHO, you need the strobes...But if this is for amateur style stuff then the hot lights should be fine once you get them dialed in with your camera. As for the color tempature and all that...Go to a photo store and buy some gells to clip over the softboxes. :2 cents:

Good to know, thanks! What size boxes do you have on your Starlites? Mine are the XS 16"x12", It would cost me nearly $600.00 to upgrade from XS to Med. and up watt the bulbs from 500 to 1000 watts each. Then they say I should upgrade stands, that is what pissed me off and made me consider strobes.....

I'm using the 16x12's with 500 watt bulbs as well. The key with these things is having plenty of light colored walls and furniture for the light to bounce off of. If you have a lot of dark colors then you need brighter lights or the strobes.

I'm sure there are 100 other ways to do it but this is from my personal experience.
