I clicked the wrong one and saved.

if you still had it slected you could maybe do a "ctrl+z" that works a lot of times.

YOu could do a system restore to a date in the past if this wouldnt make you lose too many other changes.

Fletch XXX 07-26-2004 03:32 PM

i literally feel like crying.

i have never fucking done this.

i just saved over a data file of a song...

30 tracks of digital audio and midi...

i was on my way to bring this over to a friend to mix.

i ROYALLY FUCKED UP.

i was about to make the backup, and clicked the wrong ashit.

fuck man, i need to get away opr put my fist through a wall

Check your temp directory
Or depending on the software it might have a specific temp folder somewhere else.

Copy whatever you need to save as current onto CD's and then put them back on your computer after you did the system restore.

I do not think system restore effects files just programs and windows settings

Yup, very good advice. I almost forgot to do that when I restored my pc.

Triple 6 07-26-2004 03:38 PM

system restore reverts system files.

if you need the file THAT BAD than find a high-end pc lab in your area that does data recovery. Ive heard of ones that can get shit off of HD's that have been wiped with US DOD 7 pass... and beyond..

Fletch XXX 07-26-2004 03:46 PM

sys restore didnt work, it was saved.

the file wont revert.

i just fucked up really bad.

im out of here.

fresh air is calling.

i was literally doing the backup, and ripping these to CD ...

There's a software program you can install called Go Back 3. Its a pretty smart concept if you do a lot of file work. Basically what it does whenever you go an do something like you just did Fletch, it makes an instant copy of whatever it is you write over. So if you saved as on a file 10 times, Go Back would keep all 10 copies as retrievable files and then you can Go Back to any of them and they are unchanged from the prior save.

Not going to help in this case but maybe in the future.

I'll try thinking of another solution, but I think it would take a Hard Drive specialist to go in and get it.

I'm no expert but would a file recovery program not retreive your file, there was a very good thread about file recovery posted on GFY a few weeks ago
