Beta Testers Required for a new approach to web stats

We have developed a brand new approach to the gathering and display of web statistics. We understand that many professional webmasters have multiple websites to monitor and so we have developed Avanti Web Stats.

Avanti Web Stats is different because not only does it gather and report highly detailed data, but it does it for ALL your websites at the same time AND it does it right from your desktop. This means that you no longer have to log into each of your sites' stats scripts. You can have Avanti running on your desktop and monitor your stats from there. In addition, Avanti also has an inbuilt site checker. If one or more of your sites go down, Avanti will pop up
a warning box and email any number of people you nominate.

We have chosen to post on adult webmaster boards because we know how important stats are to you. We have given you just the highlights of Avanti, it will do much more than this but the purpose of this message is to allow you to be one of the first to get your hands on Avanti by becoming a beta tester. Avanti is
due to launch at the beginning of August so there's not much time. The beta testing program is the final phase before launch and is a process we have designed to detect last minute problems.

You don't need any experience of testing but you do need to have at least two web sites. Testing is done by simply using the software and reporting back on any issues that you might find. We estimate that you will spend less that 30 minutes in the reporting phase and less than 30 minutes setting AVanti up on
two sites. If you are interested in checking out what will undoubtedly become the standard for web stats packages please visit http://cms.bestdirectbuy.com/betatest
create an account and you will be contacted with details. You may leave the program at any time. Thanks.

it like stats remote type thing?

The big green one 07-26-2004 02:08 PM

Sort of I guess. It consists of the web scripts and a desktop client application. The desktop client interrogates the web scripts and downloads the stats to your PC. The processing is then done there rather than the server (nice and quick and very powerful).

Does it require code on the HTML pages? Or does it use the server logs?

Does it work in linux (is there a linux client?)

The big green one 07-26-2004 02:36 PM

There is currently no Linux client sorry to say although that will probably change within a few weeks of launch. A linux client is on the development plan as is a Mac version but we will be getting the Windows client up to speed first.

We have avoided using the server logs to generate the stats. Ordinarily they just don't contain enough detail and there can be a lot of variation bewteen server types. We wanted Avanti to be able to track every single visitor without exception and show not only every page he visits but how long he viewed it and where he left the site. When we wrote the spec it was our intention to use the server logs but we quickly realized that we couldn't extract what we needed and do it reliably so we had to create our own way of doing it that would be guaranteed to work on all servers.

As part of that, it is necessary to install two lines of tracking code to your HTML or PHP pages. Again we wanted initially to avoid that but there's just no way around it if you want reliable stats.

When it's taken on balance though, we feel that the effort of installing tracking code to your pages will be worth it when you see the stats that can be generated. There are some screen shots on our site that will give you a general idea.

Just an update. There are so far 28 people registered as beta testers and we need around 50-60. We didn't expect people to volunteer quite so readily so our thanks to them (we'll be in contact with you all tomorrow when the download is available) and I guess if you're considering becoming a beta tester now's the time to do it because once the posts are filled we will stop accepting requests. This is only because of the amount of work it creates for us and we're only a small team really. Thanks.
