A guide to the top 10 misconceptions about TGP submitting.
Top 10 misconceptions about TGP/MGP submissions
1) Submitting galleries is the main source of adult traffic
No. There's tons of other sources of adult traffic. There's link lists, email, email groups, email clubs, forums, chatrooms, SEARCH ENGINES, etc.
2) TGP/MGP traffic is the best traffic for adult
No. Well actually, yes and no. IF you are a sponsor and have new exclusive content, then these sites are great places to debut your new collection and give experienced surfers a taste test. However, if you are a gallery maker/affiliate who just made the 1000000000000000000000000th rehash/reassembly of sponsor-provided content, then get ready for 1000000000000000:1 conversion rates. If you are a gallery maker that submits many times a day and have well-configured pages that respond to your traffic then you could do well with this traffic.
However, the fact still remains that there are other sources of traffic that don't burn as much bandwidth with the same if not better conversion rates.
3) If it's naked or hardcore it will sell
Wrong. TGP/MGP traffic has some of the most sophisticated surfers on the web when it comes to porn viewing. This crowd learned quick that quality porn can be hard for free. So this group is not the type to entice with substandard or oversaturated content. Put some time into your content strategy.
4) TGP/MGP owners are egotistical nazi assholes with their byzantine rules
Wrong. Owners are business owners just like yourself that realized the hard way that getting crappy popup laden autosubmitted galleries are just as annoying as masturbating with a cheese grater. Put yourself in their shoes--submit quality and they will post quality.
5) Gallery Design makes or break the success of a TGP/MGP gallery submission
Wrong. Gallery design is just ONE element in what makes a gallery successful. Remember, the gallery is a "taste test" or teaser for the surfer to sign up to your site or your sponsor. The design must be conducive to the sampling experience. It should not overcome it or take primary importance.
6) Text is unimportant when it comes to gallery design
Still wrong. Galleries are taste tests for your sponsor's site. They are captured by the content but led by the text. You OPEN with content, MAINTAIN with gallery layout, and CLOSE with text.
7) Auto submissions is the way to go.
To get banned maybe. Gallery scripts are getting more and more sophisticated when it comes to detecting human input. Take the time to MANUALLY submit your galleries. You'll realize that the TGP/MGP's rules are as diverse as a bag of M&M candies and your chances of getting listed is wholly dependent on your ability to comply with these diverse rules.
8) My gallery did not get listed immediately--I guess this means I won't get listed ever.
Wrong. Differing sites have differing backlog loads. Be a little patient. Some sites wait for you to have a track record of submitting consistent quality before trusting you.
9) Thumbnail quality/selection or/and Descriptions are irrelevant.
Wrong. Well-written descriptions and well-selected/high quality thumbs can make or break your gallery. It determines whether the surfer will click in the first place. Moreover, your attention to this detail will make or break you with the TGP/MGP owner. Remember, the more the user clicks, the more traffic the owner can trade or monetize.
10) Why am I not getting 1000000000000000000000000 hits a day?
TGP/MGP submission is a LONG TERM commitment. It is not an online traffic faucet that you can turn on or off. Your ability to get listed consistently depends on the quality of your content, layout, text, and the list of TGPs/MGPs you submit to. Keep your expectations realistic and your vision long-term and you should do fine.
