Just wondering. I got a 40Gb and I am thinking of upgrading. Don't run out of space just want 7200RPM and U133. Also an 8MB cache would be nice

Two 72 gig 10,000rpm SATA drives run in RAID 0.
This is supposed to be the fastest config available for the price. |

I had to get some extra last month:
1 x 40 Gb Maxtor 1 x 160 Gb Western D. 1 x 200 Gb Maxtor Onetouch External HDD Plenty to go around |
This computer has a 36 GB SCSI 15k rpm drive that I store Windows and my programs on, and a 160 GB 7200 RPM IDE drive.
I can't imagine needing much mroe storage then this in the near future.. 4 months of use and still have 80+% of the drives free. |

2 drives are striped, which means if you read/write a file, it's split up between the 2 drives, which makes it 2 times as fast (RAID 0). These 2 drives are also mirrored (exact copies), so 2 drives have to fail before I loose any data (RAID 1). |
Two 200GB IDE each one.
|
40gb in my laptop and an 80 and 120 in my desktop

I've got a 120Gig 7200rpm HD with 8MB cache but I'm still not happy with the speed its opening my applications. When I asked about a 15Krpm SCSI I was told they can burn out very fast and are a bit of a hassle to setup. Whats your experience ? Would I notice a sizable difference in application speed if I had a 15K rpm SCSI drive for my applications ? |
