Danish webmasters

Is this a good place to live and work?

angelsofporn 07-25-2004 04:25 PM

bump for the danes

Roald 07-25-2004 04:27 PM

kinda expensive if I am correct

angelsofporn 07-25-2004 04:31 PM

supposed to be the 5th best city in the world as far as lack of crime...standard of living etc

In general - Helle yeah! Pretty girls, friendly people etc. But for an adult webmaster I will have to say 'not so much'...

First of all there is the Danish Tax which is about 40% minimum and will go up to about 65% depending on your income. That sucks pretty much I can tell you...

Then when you want to spend the money there is 25% VAT on ALL products no matter what. Furthermore there is a 180% tax on cars, which means that most family cars cost the same as say a brand new BMW M3 in the US.

Then there are some issues with the IRS about VAT on Internet goods, i.e. porn memberships, which are not 100% clarified yet. But the main issue is whether or not you as a webmaster will have to pay 20% of the money you earned to the IRS as VAT.

But on the bright side, Denmark is much more liberal than the US when it comes to porn. No one is ever going to have to defend themselves to the government because they sold a dildo for instance... Remember Denmark was the first country to legalize hardcore porn :)

I don't complain. I love my country, the high standard of living and the girls.
It's fairly easy to run a company and you won't find better health care anywhere. Free and excellent.

The beer is great...
...And we spend a lot of time annoying the canadians about some stupid island.
http://www.naval.ca/article/Heubert/...e_Vikings.html
We get a good laugh about that one and the canadians really really really take it serious.

In fact Denmark is very often compared to the Netherlands :)

However if I had to relocate without thinking about family, my current education, friends etc. I would probably choose Germany or Sweden. And since I have heard something about a stupid porn law in Germany it would most likely be Sweden... Home of the prettiest girls in the world IMHO :thumbsup

I love Sweden. Stockholm is an awesome city, I was thinking about moving there a while back. I go there quite a bit. Copenhagen sucks in my opinion. If i was going to be paying all my money to the government, i would expect the streets to be paved with gold... not getting paid out to an influx of immigrants who are robbing the system blind

:2 cents:

the best thing about Scandanavia and probably why i like it... is because it's the total opposite of the US. people are very quite, polite, low key and respectful.. and mind thier own business.

So sweden is a nice place to live? Gotta be pretty cold being that far north though. What else makes it a good alternative to the US?

Exactly. And the irony with the scandalously high car taxes is that many Danish roads are most likely some of the worst in western Europe.

So much money is being spent on a social welfare system which is close to fucked up, that it is ridiculous. I don't mind paying my taxes if I know the money is being spent well, but very little of it is :(

The one thing I really like about America is the individual responsibility which I think the Danish society does not encourage at all. In fact there are many obstacles when you want to start and run your own business. Also the social welfare system does not encourage people to take care of themselves as it works now.

There's England of course but if you really want it cozy you should pick somewhere in Scandinavia. My american friends who have visited me here in Denmark loved it. But you guys sure eat a lot. They left me with a HUGE restaurant bill every night.

i always wanted to go to Denmark. When i got there, i was a little shocked... i thought it would at least be on par with Sweden given the tax rates, but from what i have seen, it does not appear to be.

also, i think it just depends on how much people need that sense of safety and security that the social programs provide. people in the US basically tend to equate social programs to communism. thats why there is much less of it. but in some countries, i would be fine with the tax rates... if i felt i was getting what i paid for.
