Jeeze people, hire a damn lawyer if you have legal questions

It doesn't take a lot of common sense to figure out that if you need legal advice, you don't go to a message board on the internet to get it. Least of all a porn message board.

Seriously, this is the law. It's very important to be completely and totally aware of the implications of everything you do or else you get punished by the law.

Do you really want to risk that by asking a bunch of people who will answer "tranny?"

Things might very well be changing, so instead of hoping that you will be ok, go ask a professional.

If you end up with a massive fine and shut down and in jail because you were to cheap to ask a lawyer instead of us.... don't expect any sympathy from anyone.

AaronM 07-25-2004 02:59 PM

Damn...Why didn't I think of that before posting all my 2257 questions to GFY? :(

StuartD 07-25-2004 03:18 PM

Common sense doesn't seem to have a place with most of these people.

EviLGuY 07-25-2004 03:26 PM

What? Aren't we all great legal minds here? I bet half of us watch every episode of Law and Order! :)

Fletch XXX 07-25-2004 03:29 PM

people that go around helping every newbie that creates an account on this board are stupid.

half of the people in this industry could disappear and i would ask "why didnt the other 48% disappear too?"

Tam 07-25-2004 03:30 PM

wow...... And here I thought it was ok to ask our peers some advice and maybe a little more of a better understanding on what the new changes were about. I didn't see any harm in it, but I guess some people do, huh? :helpme

general conversation is one thing.

me having a lawyer and spilling the advice I am given is retarded.

Ok, I guess I misunderstood, then... I wasn't aware there was anyone giving "legal advice", all I was aware of is people asking questions and even I have done that and I am certainly no newbie.... but there is a lot of it I am trying to wrap my own head around too. I thought this was pointed at that........ and since I was one of them asking questions.... well, you know. lol

Asking about the new changes in TPG's, or hosting or other industry type questions is rather different than asking questions about new laws that could land you in jail.

As EvilGuy said... this isn't really the best place to be asking for legal advice. There's places that are specifically there to "give legal advice."

This isn't the type of thing that will mean having to change the # of recips on a TGP and cause you hours more work.

This is jail time. This is serious. It just makes sense to cover your own ass and make sure you get it right. The consequences are too huge.

And sorry, but coming here and asking Oracle Porn or lil2rich4u just doesn't seem to me to be the best approach.

when it comes to the law, if you get your advice on this board, you are asking for trouble.

In a week I will have something to help those how cant afford a lawyer but need to get information.

PatrickKing 07-25-2004 03:41 PM

The more I read the more I realised I needed a lawyer.
This week thats where Im going.
Some of the 2257 talk here was insightful but bottom line is do it right because there will be no second chance.

Unless it's a direct hotline to a lawyer, I'd have to say that anyone who uses your "something" is a retard.

Sorry, but there's no substitute. Legal Advice = Lawyer.

Exactly, and I completely agree with this...... what the group of us that were discussing it were doing, though, was trying to decipher what it was all talking about..... there were some of us that can't get our heads around some of the mumbo jumbo and were asking about that sort of thing. Basically a translation is what we were talking about, but there was a lot of us doing it, and I wasn't aware of these two "giving legal" advice... when I want that, I'll go where I need to go to get it..... but translation was what we were after..... and we got it pretty well figured out where WE could comprehend it. I can look at legal forms ALL day and read them 500 times, but until someone puts it in layman's terms for me, I just don't get it...... and that's what a couple of them did.... put it in layman's terms where I got it. :winkwink:

MaskedMan, I kind of know the difference in a TGP and 2257..... I ain't the newbie, remember? :1orglaugh

you are referring to something i was not.

i was simply making a passer-by comment on "seeking legal advice on boards" which is the title and subject.

of course discussion is a must, dont dig deep, i didnt mean anything by my comment other than holding peoples hands is a waste of time in regards to this type of shit.

Oh I know.... I just wasn't aware of these other talks going on, so I was a little lost is all. :thumbsup

BUT, now that I have a little better understanding of what it all "means" then I can better go and get advice from legal areas........ but I am sure there are some that are in a position like I am in. In MY area of the country, there isn't such a thing as "lawyers for internet related areas". Shit, most all of the lawyers around where I live, barely even know what the internet IS, much less anything to do with the laws governing it. Calling up Billy Bob to ask him for advice on Internet Porn laws would be as out of place here as a cow walking down the streets of L.A...... rotfl
