What are your thoughts on professional email marketers?

psyko514 07-24-2004 06:00 PM

you mean spammers, right?

BradM 07-24-2004 06:00 PM

I think double optin emailing is still the most profitable way to make money online.
If you have a GREAT double optin list and are 100% canspam compliant you will do well.

You make more in 5 minutes mailing then a week of anything else. (ok a slight exageration)

Is it possible to do perfectly legal mailing (including "sexually explicit" in the subject line) without 95% of the mails being eaten by spam filters ?

filters can be tricked but I aint gonna post anymore info here on it

crockett 07-24-2004 07:05 PM

I think they are swell, I just wish my spam inbox could equal my virus attached inbox.

Ar3s 07-24-2004 07:10 PM

best way make money online ;)

filters... lol
you ask about pro email marketers aight? then np with filters for thos people lol :1orglaugh

SykkBoy 07-24-2004 07:14 PM

Am I the only one seeing almost zero porn spam over the last 2-3 weeks? I never got that much anyways, but my porn spam is maybe one per day if that...

Actually, my spam overall has dropped greatly and not just because Netscape's Junkmail filter kicks all sorts of ass...

But, a professional email marketer? Seriously, who wouldn't the kind of joins a good, solid bulker can produce?

Gee, 100+ sales per day mailing or 3-4 per day submitting to TGP's (if you're even able to get a listing without paying for it)....pretty easy to do the math on that one ;-)

Back in the day, I knew mailers who were doing 500+ joins per day with almost no effort at all...who would really get self-righteous about that and turn that down? Don't forget that traffic derived from email is more valuable as they are more apt to forget to cancel and don't often see as much porn on a daily basis as a TGP surfer...

but, lately, mail traffic has become saturated just like TGP traffic...there are very few who still do that well these days...between filters, competition from foreign companies who don't have to abide by canspam laws, the sheer flood of email in the average surfer's inbox, even spam isn't as lucrative as it once was...

sorry to confuse some of you and blur the lines between legit opt-in mailers and spammers, but both are feeeling the pinch lately...

if they're true double opt in lists that aren't sold/traded then they're fine.

i highly doubt there's many like that and those that aren't are scum

emthree 07-24-2004 07:53 PM

-If you're hiring someone("professional email marketers"") to spit emails out for you, then you're crazy.

-If you're now trying to start a mailing campaign, you're somewhat crazy.

If you're ready for the drama, heat, deaththreats ... good luck to ya

Hope you're saying that from experience. :thumbsup

I have no problem with those who only send information to those who have requested it (and can cancel their requests easily). But the spammers should die slow and extremely painful deaths.

For everyone but the spammers themselves, it is a hugely inefficient form of marketing. Over 85% of internet mail is supposedly spam, and that costs the Internet community billions of dollars a year. According to an article I saw earlier this week, these extra costs amount to at least 20 times the most generous estimates of the spammers earnings.

Next time anyone is tempted to admire spammers as smart operators, consider that their method of doing business is a bit like a factory stealing electricity from the building next door. Except that we are all "the building next door"...

Varius 07-24-2004 09:49 PM

If you contact the major free webmail companies (Yahoo, AOL, hotmail) BEFORE lauching an email campaign, you can have all your mail get through :thumbsup

TIme-consuming to be sure (Hotmail especially is a bitch to get through to), but the extra sales will make up for it!

Yahoo is rather easy, all they ask is you show them the unsubscribe works, have a system in place to delete mails that bounce (We told them we use Python script with QMail, and they didnt know what that was so said 'ok cool'), etc...

Spammers can be screwed by lawyers now days. In most cases it's not worth it in the US.
